General Position Summary :
The responsibility of the Staff Pharmacist is to dispense prescriptions in accordance with JHC pharmacy guidelines and all Federal and State regulations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities :
Patient Relations :
- Counsels with patients and families to obtain therapeutic benefit from medications upon request.
- Obtains pertinent information from patient, family, and / or medical record, as necessary to safely dispense medications.
- Advises and makes recommendations regarding medications, including over the-counter drugs and nutritional supplements, according to therapeutic goals as directed by patient and provider goals.
Staff Relations / Team Building :
Consults with providers and other members of the health care team as necessary to dispense medications safely and accurately.Works with administration, supervisor, and other staff in a positive and professional manner. Provides constructive feedback and communicates accurate information. Works to assure that pharmacy policies and procedures interface successfully with other departments' needs and goals.Meets with supervisor as requested to discuss any clinical or administrative concerns.Demonstrates reliability by reporting to work on time as scheduled and informing supervisor of any schedule changes.Dresses appropriately and professionally for the position and in accordance with the JHC dress code.Clinical Duties :
Dispenses prescriptions accurately and efficiently using a computerized pharmacy system, following 340(b) pharmacy rules for eligible patients.Follows all Pharmacy laws and regulations as set by the Virginia Board of Pharmacy.Relates effectively with patients, staff, and providers.Conducts patient education / counseling necessary for pharmacotherapy.Provides clinical drug information to health center staff upon request.Assures clinical patient care activities and related pharmaceutical services are provided in conformance with principles of the Bureau of Community Health Services. Complies with all rules and regulations governing 340(b) pharmacies.Ensures adequate and unexpired medications are stocked, properly labeled, and inventories.Works assigned schedule to cover pharmacy needs. May need to work extra shifts to maintain pharmacy coverage during staff shortages (vacation, illness, etc.)Safety / Infection Control Activities :
Abides by all Johnson Health Center infection control policies, including acute response measures in the setting of a public health concern or disease outbreak.Other Functions :

Personal & professional attributes required to perform the job : education, experience, special skills, training, etc.
Education : S. or Pharm.D. in pharmacy.Experience : Minimum of three years' experience as a staff pharmacist.Special skills : Commitment and ability to successfully demonstrate honesty, integrity, quality, teamwork, customer service, professionalism, and confidentiality in contribution to the success of JHC.Certificates / Licensure : Current licensure as a pharmacist in the State of Virginia.Must be qualified in Basic Life Support techniques. .Physical Demand and Working Environment :
Fast paced clinical setting. Lifting and / or exerting force up to 20 pounds occasionally. Work requires speaking, using analytical skills, sitting, bending, reaching, walking, standing, hearing, kneeling, and repetitive motion with certain activities. 8 -10 hours of constant computer usage. OSHA medium risk position.
