Position Overview:
We’re a leading global fitness company seeking a talented and hands-on Engineering Manger to lead our Key Technology (KT) Innovation team focused on our commercial portfolio. They lead a team of engineers on Research and Development in advance of our standard New Product Development (NPD) processes to create proof-of-concepts (PoC) and partner with the Product Management team for review and refinement. This team will feed new product development by successfully and smoothly transitioning PoC’s to NPD engineering teams based on Asia sourcing and manufacturing. The successful candidate will have a willingness to move fast, fail early, iterate, and consistently deliver. They are never married to ideas, have a penchant for creating new IP and IP workarounds, and will help Johnson Health Tech continue to be a leader in the fitness space. This is a supervisory position
Responsibilities:
Personnel:
· Assist VP of R&D in attracting and hiring top engineering talent
· Provide work direction to lower-level engineers of multiple disciplines, train and mentor staff in product development processes
· Coach team to achieve 100% of their KPI’s
Key Technology Innovation:
· Lead team on multiple projects through Key Technology Innovation development processes
· Understand and integrate potential new technologies, features, modalities/ergonomics into Johnson products
· Create proof-of-concepts (PoC) and partner with the Product Management team for review and refinement
· Evaluate and test for viability and risk mitigation
· Feed new product development by successfully and smoothly transitioning PoC’s to NPD engineering teams based on Asia sourcing and manufacturing
· Develop and document design and specifications
· Manage team to meet schedule and cost requirements
· Understand current manufacturing capabilities, strive to move beyond the status quo with a positive, problem solving, and can-do approach. Know which battles to win and those to compromise on
· Create new intellectual property and intellectual property workarounds
· Other projects as assigned
Requirements
Education:
· 4-year degree in relevant engineering field
· Well-qualified candidates will possess an advanced degree
Technical experience:
· 8 years project and design engineering with products containing rotating machinery, sensors, PCB’s, firmware, and software (consumer goods a plus)
· Demonstrable experience with 3D CAD software
· Thorough understanding of project management and product development processes
· Ability to read and understand patents
· Management & Leadership Experience:
· 5 years supervising staff and managing product development and engineering teams
· Demonstrated experience working across departments to achieve company goals
· A passion for delivering efficient solutions and exceeding customer expectations
Other Requirements:
· Ability and willingness to travel internationally, approximately 4 trips to Asia per year, with one each quarter.
· Communication with globally based development teams during non-standard business hours
· Ability to lead and inspire a team of engineers
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills
