Network Engineer

Position Overview:

The Network Engineer will take full responsibility for designing, implementing, and maintaining the organization's Cisco and Meraki network and server infrastructure in Cottage Grove, WI. This role requires expertise in networking and server infrastructure to ensure robust, secure, and high-performance systems. The ideal candidate should have a strong background in enterprise networking, server technologies, and 24/7 operational support, as well as the ability to work independently and collaborate with cross-functional teams.

Beyond technical expertise, the Network Engineer will drive strategic initiatives related to network and server infrastructure, taking ownership of long-term planning, network design, and optimization. This role involves advising key decision-makers and mentoring junior engineers.

Responsibilities:

· Network Infrastructure Design & Management: Lead the design, configuration, and management of the organization's network, including routers, switches, firewalls, and VPNs. Ensure scalability, performance, security, and failover readiness.

· Server Infrastructure: Maintain deep technical knowledge of how high-performance networks interact with server infrastructure and storage arrays, both on premises and in the cloud.

· Monitoring & Troubleshooting: Continuously monitor network and server health, proactively resolving issues and optimizing performance.

· Security Management: Collaborate with the security team to implement and enforce network security best practices.

· Disaster Recovery & Backup Systems: Work with offsite DR solutions to ensure seamless failover transitions.

· Collaboration with IT Teams: Work closely with system administrators, security engineers, and other IT teams to support cross-departmental initiatives.

· 24/7 On-Call Support: Respond to critical network and server issues promptly to minimize downtime.

· Documentation & Reporting: Maintain up-to-date records of network configurations, server setups, and troubleshooting procedures.

· Continuous Improvement: Stay current with industry advancements and propose infrastructure enhancements.

· Budget & Planning: Assist management in proactively planning and budgeting for future improvements.

· This is a 5-day in-office position, and you must live within 60 minutes drive time to our Cottage Grove office.

Education:

· Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Network Engineering or other information technology related fields.

Experience:

· Minimum of 7-10 years relevant experience in network engineering, network administration or infrastructure management.

· Extensive experience with Cisco and Meraki network infrastructure.

· Strong understanding of high-performance networking and server infrastructure, including on-premise and cloud-based solutions.

· Expertise in network security, firewalls, intrusion detection systems, and secure remote access.

· Experience with disaster recovery solutions and failover strategies.

· Ability to monitor network health, troubleshoot issues proactively, and maintain optimal uptime.

· Strong collaboration skills to work effectively with IT teams and leadership.

· Availability to provide 24/7 on-call support for critical incidents.

· Commitment to staying up to date with the latest network technologies, industry trends, and best practices.
