What are the responsibilities and job description for the Dental Hygienist- Full-Time / Part-Time (Sign on Bonus) position at Johnson Health?
The Dental Hygienist performs preventive dental procedures, including dental prophylaxis, scaling, radiographs and sealants, as prescribed by the Dentist. Educates patients on dental disease and preventative home care, including brushing and flossing techniques. Performs limited administrative functions involving treatment notes and charting for patient dental records and health histories.
Staff Relations/Team Building:
Consults with dentist and other members of the health care team as necessary. Acts to facilitate communication between the members of the health care team, including clinical and non-clinical staff.
Performs other necessary duties as required by the Johnson Health Center and as directed by the Dentist to meet the goal of providing oral health care services.
Clinical Duties:
1. Performs preventive dental care for patients as prescribed by the Dentist. This includes dental scaling, prophylaxis, fluoride treatment, taking appropriate diagnostic x-rays, and applying dental sealants.
2. Performs preliminary examination of patient’s dentition and gingiva, including charting existing restorations, any dental pathology, and measuring and recording periodontal pocket depths.
3. Performs suture removal.
4. Cleans instruments, performs tray set up and updates patient’s medical information in the EMR.
5. Physical attendance is an essential element of the job and necessary to perform the essential functions of the Dental Hygienist position.
Performance Improvement Activities:
Attends staff meetings and participates in the Johnson Health Center QI program.
Safety/Infection Control Activities:
1. Attends all mandatory OSHA infection control seminars, and follows general OSHA guidelines for infection control, including “Universal Precautions.”
2. Abides by all Johnson Health Center infection control policies, including acute response measures in the setting of a public health concern or disease outbreak.
Other Functions:
1. Employee will abide by the Code of conduct as documented in the Corporate Compliance Manual.
2. Must demonstrate a personal and professional commitment to Johnson Health Center and its mission.

Qualifications:
- Required RDH credentials.
- Must be licensed to practice Dental Hygiene in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
- Previous experience in a dental setting preferred.
- Ability to relate effectively with patients and staff.
- Ability to be qualified in Basic Life Support techniques
- Must be able to work independently as a team member in a fast-paced environment.
- Must be able to make decisions on patient care which reflect professional strength, confidence and integrity.
