The Translational Science Team is an integrated group of scientists that supports the mission to deliver remission in patients with immune and inflammatory disorders. The team is composed of disease experts, biomarker scientists, computational biologists, and experts in imaging and digital health and is uniquely situated in the Development Organization to enable the advancement of our clinical trials for our industry leading pipeline of novel mechanisms small molecule and biologic agents. The Translational Sciences team uses human based data and tissues to support the end-to-end portfolio. Together with our partners, the TS group will provide the key learnings/insights on the next wave of novel therapies.

Translational Science has a broad remit stretching from support of discovery with human data to support target selection, through development of novel decision- making biomarkers for early phase clinical trials, target-centric indication sequencing and prioritization, biomarker support of regulatory filings and post-market publications.

The Executive Director/ Senior Director, Head of Respiratory Translational Sciences position is a senior leadership role within Immunology Translational Sciences team, supporting programs from ideation in Discovery through late development and marketing. This position serves as a member of the TS leadership team to lead the TS organization and will be a core member of the Respiratory Disease Area leadership team and Compound Development Teams. The Executive Director/ Senior Director will head a group that has primary responsibility for all aspects of translational sciences, including guiding indication selection, advancing patient stratification hypothesis, and creating and implementing innovative biomarker strategies. The successful candidate will have a strong track record, expertise and collaborative base in the respiratory field.

The Executive Director/ Senior Director, TS, will be accountable for ensuring the group’s strategic direction, proactive preparedness for governance decisions, the timely creation and implementation of high caliber translational biomarker plans in support of key milestones for preclinical and clinical portfolio programs and the development of a team of scientists. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the construction of translational data packages, including strategies for target engagement, expression and predictive response biomarkers to enable patient stratification. The Executive Director/ Senior Director, Translational Sciences Lead will partner with Discovery and Translational Medicine to engage in external interactions with academic institutions having strong capabilities in translational science and medicine. Further, the Executive Director/ Senior Director will be expected to be proactive in support of decision making to project teams and be accountable for talent development of his/her team.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and lead teams of scientists (individuals and people leaders) to develop and validate novel assay and analyze and interpret clinical data, driving decision making for clinical assets.
  • Lead and shape the design and execution of program translational strategies integrating both disease and pathway approaches to address target engagement and expression, patient segmentation and indication potential.
  • Collaborate with Discovery and TM leadership to establish strategies for the development and implementation of clinical biomarkers.
  • Partner with scientific pillar leads to integrate clinical translational science findings into evolving programs.
  • Lead and drive efforts to engage in collaborations with external partners/academic institutions having strong capabilities in translational science and medicine.
  • Support Business Development, including due diligence activities.

Qualifications:

  • PhD, MD or MD/PhD required.
  • Minimum of 12-15 years of industry or relevant experience where direct ‘hands-on’ experience in Immunology biomarker development is required.
  • Depth of experience with several different therapeutic platforms preferred (biologics, small molecules and/or gene/RNA).
  • Exceptional communication and collaboration skills are required.
  • Track record of developing and implementing impactful biomarker and translational plans is essential.
  • Supervisory experience or leading matrix teams is required.
  • Training in translational sciences or basic Immunology is strongly preferred.
  • Subspecialty training in Respiratory is preferred.
  • Dynamic entrepreneurial mindset.

The anticipated base pay range for this position is $193,000 to $333,500.The Company maintains highly competitive, performance-based compensation programs. Under current guidelines, this position is eligible for an annual performance bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan. The annual performance bonus is a cash bonus intended to provide an incentive to achieve annual targeted results by rewarding for individual and the corporation’s performance over a calendar/performance year. Bonuses are awarded at the Company’s discretion on an individual basis.

  • Employees are eligible for the following time off benefits:
    • Vacation – up to 120 hours per calendar year
    • Sick time - up to 40 hours per calendar year; for employees who reside in the State of Washington – up to 56 hours per calendar year
    • Holiday pay, including Floating Holidays – up to 13 days per calendar year of Work, Personal and Family Time - up to 40 hours per calendar year
