Job Description
The Staff Electrical Engineer is responsible for acting as an electrical/electro-mechanical expert team member leading and supporting various assignments to ensure business continuity of Ethicon’s Capital Systems and Handheld devices. The Staff Engineer will work multi-functionally on electrical hardware and software engineering activities related to product enhancement, regulatory requirements, compliance/quality improvements, process simplification, and cost improvements.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement and coordinate work required for engineering changes to address electrical hardware and software aspects of capital systems and handheld devices.
- Lead and support field root cause investigation and resolution, including gap analysis, production troubleshooting, and process/product validation.
- Develop strong partnerships with multi-functional leaders and suppliers to drive alignment, prioritize and complete combined projects.
- Ensure projects are driven in compliance with regulatory requirements (GMP, ISO, MDR) & Ethicon policy & procedure requirement
- Ensure the safety and critical performance of commercial products, per applicable electrical safety standards of medical devices.
- BS in Electrical Engineering is required. Advanced degree preferred.
- A minimum of 5 years relevant work experience.
- Experience translating high-level customer needs into technical requirements, analyzing the tradeoffs and business impacts.
- Experience within a medical device or other highly regulated industry.
- Strong electrical analysis skills, including an understanding of electrical systems and subsystems and how they interact with the overall system design.
- Knowledge of root cause analysis, verification/validation testing and creating test protocols.
- Familiar with electrical test equipment, such as oscilloscopes, power supplies, and spectrum analyzers.
- Results driven with the ability to work across organizational boundaries. Demonstrated oral and written communication skills.
- Successfully leading projects and managing risks.
- Familiar with family of standards for electrical safety of medical devices IEC/EN/UL 60601-1
- Experience in R&D environment, delivering solutions with complex system components and architecture.
- Experience with embedded PCBA design, and familiarity with applicable IPC standards for electronic assemblies.
- Familiarity with applicable standards for battery design, manufacturing storage and transportation.
- Experience with SDLC ( Software Design Life Cycle) process.
- Experience with Cadence/OrCAD/Allegro or similar eCAD.
- Experience with designing prototypes, simulation and quickly testing them.
- This position is based in Cincinnati, OH, and may involve up to 20% travel.
