Assistant Director (Contemporary Art)

Position: Position reports directly to the Executive Director and Business Manager.

Key Responsibilities (Overview):

·        Ensure the Director’s timely attention to internal and external commitments and provide back-up support when needed.

·        Provide administrative support to Director and Business Manager.

·        Work with Director and Registrar & Collections Manager to help supervise day to day gallery operations.

·        Assist in the curation and presentation of artworks for considerations for clients.

·        Contribute to the composition of artist statements, wall text, email broadcasts, social media copy, etc.

Sales:

• Actively seek and create sales opportunities and act as sales assistant to Director when needed.
• Participate in sales initiated by email and/or phone inquiries and walk-in clients as needed.
• Arrange and send image reports to current, potential, and past clients on a case-by-case basis (with oversight of the Director).
• Along with Director:
• Supervise digital promotion of the gallery on platforms like Artsy, artnet, Instagram, etc.
• Respond to inquiries via website or e-mail.
• Attend outside events for potential networking.
• Prepare sales reports, etc.
• Assist in executing sales plans and programs to ensure the profitable growth of the gallery.

Curatorial:

• Assist in the creation of press releases and exhibition proposals with the Director.
• Work with the Director to develop exhibition-related programming.
• Work with the Director and Business Manager to track exhibition budgets and expenditures.

Additional:

• Engage in dialogue amongst colleagues, sharing professional opinions and promoting the exchange of ideas and scholarship related to contemporary art within and outside of the gallery.
• Represent the gallery at events in and outside of Atlanta, whenever possible or necessary.
• Maintain a visible role in the Atlanta community and foster relationships with artists, galleries, collectors, institutions, etc.
