Job Title: EMS Director
Supervised by: Chief Nursing Officer
Job Summary: Coordinates and directs the Emergency Medical Services and staff to support quality patient care. Responsible for administrative duties including oversight of staff, education and training. Maintains performance improvement activities for EMS and participates in CQI activities. Assists with the formation of the annual budget. Also assesses and manages medical, trauma and environmental emergencies under the supervision of on or offline medical control. Transports sick/injured persons to medical facilities.
Demonstrates Competency in the Following Areas:
EMS Direction:
Provides direction and coordination of Emergency Medical Services.
Coordinates and directs patient care to ensure patients’ needs are met and the facility’s policies and procedures are followed.
Development, implementation and evaluation of field clinical training for EMTs and paramedics.
Performs management activities such as interviewing, hiring, termination and assessment of staff’s clinical competency.
Maintains performance improvement and quality control activities for the Emergency Medical Services.
Maintains documentation which meets the current standards and policies.
Provides education and guidance to staff on performance improvement. Able to plan, organize and participate in orientation and inservice training for staff.
Maintains a good working relationship with area hospital emergency departments, fire and law enforcement and other ancillary services.
Ensures that the Emergency Medical Services is in compliance with local, state, federal codes and regulations and applicable regulatory agencies.
Knowledgeable of FCC regulations governing radio communications.
Ensures staff meet requirements of the State Board of EMS; maintains personnel records.
Assists in the development and implementation of EMS treatment protocols.
In coordination with the Emergency Department Director develops, implements and revises EMS policies and procedures.
Ensures staff compliance with emergency medical transport regulations, protocol and policy and procedure.
Maintains and ensures compliance with environmental safety and infection prevention and control standards.
Maintains all emergency equipment; documents preventive maintenance; orders supplies, and equipment as needed.
Communicates appropriately and clearly to hospital administrator, medical director, physicians, nursing and staff.
Promotes and advances EMS – community relationships and participates in community affairs.
Stays informed of trends, advancements in pre-hospital medicine through continuing education, seminars, conferences, professional societies and journals.
Knowledgeable of the geographical area covered by the Emergency Medical Services.
EMT Responsibilities: (follow state regulations)
Able to triage, assess, extricate (if applicable) and treat injured and sick persons.
Responsibilities include Life support, airway management, oxygen therapy, venous access, shock prevention, splinting, spinal immobilization, vehicular extrication.
Ability to establish patient airway with oral and naso-pharyngeal airways, endotracheal intubation.
Able to ventilate a patient with mask/ambu bag when necessary.
Able to suction oral secretions.
Immobilizes extremities on trauma patients; applies direct pressure to control hemorrhaging.
Able to administer fluids in the field.
Follows the seven (7) medication rights and reduces the potential for medication errors.
Interprets basic cardiac monitoring.
Performs and assists with technical skills as defined in the scope of practice.
Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
Supports and maintains a culture of safety and quality.
Adheres to ambulance policies addressing standard precautions, safety regulations and guidelines.
Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and the skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care to the patients served. Able to interpret data about patient's status in order to identify each patient's age specific needs and provide care needed by the patient group.
Transports patients and supplies safely.
Operates equipment safely and correctly.
Communicates clearly and concisely to co-workers, physicians, nurses.

Ensures compliance with policies and procedures regarding EMS operations, safety, infection prevention and control, fire safety, etc.

Actively participates in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities.
Complies with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices.
Requirements
Regulatory Requirements:
· High School graduate or equivalent.
· Current Paramedic certification in the state of Arkansas.
· Current BLS, ACLS, PALS certifications.
· Valid State of Arkansas Driver's License.
· Supervisory or team leader experience preferred.
Language Skills:
· Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
· Additional languages preferred.
· Excellent interpersonal skills.
· Excellent presentation skills.
Skills:
· Basic computer knowledge.
