Job Summary: Provides direct and indirect care services that meet the psychosocial, physical and general aspects of care; meets the communication needs of the patient and family; provides care that reflects initiative and responsibility indicative of professional expectations, under supervision of a registered nurse. Maintains regulatory requirements, nursing and hospital policies, procedures, and standards. Communicates with physicians and team members about changes in patient’s clinical condition, including results of diagnostic studies and symptomology. Is able to respond quickly and accurately to changes in condition or response to treatment. Additionally, is able to perform general nursing duties in all departments with adequate supervision.
Requirements
Demonstrates Competency in the following Areas:
· Same Day Surgery / Endoscopy
o Admits and discharges patients including assessment
o Administers medications
o Documents completely to reflect care given
o Provides emotional support to patient and family
o Provides comfort/therapeutic items such as warm blankets, ice packs, pillows for elevation, etc.
o Educates patient and family regarding discharge instructions and any changes in post-procedure condition
o Communicates with anesthesia and surgeon changes and needs of patient prior to discharge
· Circulating Nurse, Operating Room
o Responsible for the activities of the OR
o Responsible for the supervision of the scrub
o Acts as the primary patient advocate
o Positions, preps, pads, and provides all items needed for the patient’s surgical experience
o Anticipates the needs of the patient, surgeon, scrub, and anesthesia and acts accordingly
o Documents completely to reflect care given
o Responsible for labeling and safe disposition of all surgical specimens
· PACU RN
o Documents completely to reflect care given
o Administers medications per order to provide as much pain relief as possible
o Documents vitals every 5 minutes
o Performs on-going assessment of the patient and communicates changes in status to anesthesia and surgeon
o Maintains thermoregulatory status for normothermia, and documents all measures
· Conscious Sedation Endoscopy RN
o Documents completely to reflect care given
o Responsible for labeling and safe disposition of all endoscopy specimens
o Administers medications to provide patient safety while sedating the patient
o Acts as the primary patient advocate
Additional Skills or Abilities:
· Current BLS and ACLS Certification, prior to completion of department orientation.
· Current PALS Certification, completion within 60 days of hire.
