Johnson & Webbert, LLP, seeks an attorney with six or more years or more of litigation experience in employment and civil rights law, with a willingness to become licensed in Maine. Johnson & Webbert is the leading workers' rights and civil-rights law firm in Northern New England; we have a 30-year track record of prosecuting precedent-setting cases in the public interest, including class and collective actions and constitutional claims. Our primary offices are in Topsham and Portland, Maine, but we have a national practice with major cases in North Carolina, D.C., New York, Massachusetts, and elsewhere. We offer a hybrid working arrangement, with two days in the office.

Responsibilities

Represent clients in court proceedings, including hearings, trials, and appeals
Conduct legal research and analysis to advise clients on legal matters
Draft legal pleadings and briefs
Negotiate settlements and agreements on behalf of clients
Advocate for clients' interests during negotiations and litigation
Provide legal counsel and guidance to clients
Maintain client confidentiality and adhere to highest ethical standards

Qualifications

J.D. from an accredited law school

Admission to the Maine bar or ability to be admitted within one year of start date

Strong knowledge of civil rights and discrimination laws

Excellent research, writing, and communication skills

Ability to analyze complex legal issues and provide sound advice

Strong negotiation and advocacy skills

Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple cases simultaneously

Professional demeanor and ability to build rapport with clients

Ability to relocate if out of state and work two days per week in Topsham, Maine

Compensation and Benefits

Starting salary in the range of $100,000 to $150,000 or more, depending on experience.

Attorneys can also earn annual bonuses based on performance and productivity.

Johnson & Webbert contributes 5% of your pay to your individual retirement account to which you can also make additional, voluntary, pre‐tax contributions.
