TITLE: Principal
QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Master’s degree
- Eligible for South Carolina State Board of Education certification in Administration and Supervision
- Five years of teaching experience
- Two years preferred of administrative experience as a principal or assistant principal
REPORTS TO: Superintendent
JOB GOAL: By use of leadership, supervisory, and administrative skills, to manage assigned
school personnel so as to promote the educational development of each student.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Cultivates a vision for the school with measurable goals and strategies for implementation.
- Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the school district’s policies, procedures and applicable laws.
- Utilizes data to develop and monitor student behavioral/health initiatives.
- Supervises the guidance program to enhance individual student education and development.
- Establishes and maintains favorable relationships with local community groups and individuals in order to foster understanding and solicit support for overall school objectives.
- Supervises the instructional program and assists teachers in development, as appropriate.
- Supervises subordinates, teaching staff and support staff within assigned school.
- Assumes responsibility for the evaluation of all personnel assigned to the school.
- Initiates, designs, and implements programs to meet specific needs of the school.
- Assists in the screening, interviewing, and selecting of personnel and orients newly assigned staff members in their development, as appropriate.
- Assumes leadership of the school’s athletic and extracurricular activities.
- Completes reports, records, lists, and all other paperwork required by federal, state, and local education officials.
- Participates in principals’ meetings and other meetings as are required or appropriate.
- Administers and monitors the school’s budget allocations, including the requisition of supplies, equipment, and instructional materials as needed.
- Attends special events held to recognize student achievement, school sponsored activities, functions, and athletic events.
- Maintains and controls the various funds generated by student activities.
- Maintains written inventory of equipment located at the school.
- Conducts meetings to keep staff members informed of policy changes, new programs, and pertinent information.
- Provides for the safety and security of all students and staff by walking about the school campus and facility and planning and directing building maintenance.
- Assumes responsibility for maintaining student records in attendance, conduct, health, and academic performance.
- Maintains high standards of student conduct and enforces discipline as necessary, according due process to the rights of students.
- Develops and implements a professional growth plan.
- Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as may be assigned.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Twelve-month year. – Salary and work schedule to be established by the Board.

Performance of this job is evaluated in accordance with provisions of Board Policy.
