What are the responsibilities and job description for the Co-Head Girls Diving Coach (.5) 2025-26 position at Johnston Community School District?
POSITION SUMMARY: The Johnston High School Girls Swimming and Diving Team is a program focused on assisting and developing each athlete to achieve their individual levels of success in a safe and secure, yet competitive environment. The Johnston program is a cooperative program including athletes from DSM Christian, Dallas Center Grimes and Urbandale to enable athletes from those schools to have the opportunity to participate in swimming and diving.
Qualifications:
- Valid Iowa Coaching Authorization or Endorsement required
- Lifeguard, CPR, and First Aid certification required
Performance Responsibilities & Criteria:
- Coach entry level through upper tier athletes participating in both varsity and junior varsity levels
- Develop a diving program with a primary focus of safety as athletes progress in their level of ability
- Develop all athletes and track individual progress
- Fully understand the National Federation of State High School Association (NFHS) rules relating to high school diving, and have the knowledge to fairly judge competitions
- Develop the skills necessary to successfully participate and perform in both 6 and 11 dive events for varsity, and 6 dive events for junior varsity
- Assist divers in proper completion of dive sheets ahead of each competition
- Prompt and reliable attendance at all practices and competitions including dual meets and invitationals
- Assist with setup/teardown of home competitions
- Assist with transportation of athletes and judges to competitions as needed
- Attend pre-season planning sessions and post-season celebrations
- Ensure all equipment is safe and functional for intended purpose
- Identify opportunities where equipment will benefit the development and safety of the athletes
- Responsible for the safety and security of all athletes in program
- Assist Head & Assistant Swimming coaches as needed
