JOB SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Superintendent, the Executive Director of Instructional Services is responsible for providing the vision, leadership, coordination and executive oversight of the development and continual improvement of the District’s curricular and instructional programs.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree in Educational Administration or Curriculum and Instruction
  • Valid Iowa Professional Administrator License
  • Valid Evaluator Approval certification
  • Minimum of five years of exemplary building administrator, district-level experience, or AEA administrative experience
  • Demonstrated success and ability to lead and effect system-wide curricular and instructional change and improvement

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collaboratively identifies district visions and focus for instructional services; develops timelines, strategies, and accountability to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Provides oversight for the district’s curriculum review process.
  • Partners with the Instructional Services team to develop and implement quality professional learning for teaching, support and administrative staff.
  • Leads efforts to create a learning environment for staff and students focused on critical thinking, collaboration, creativity and innovation, complex communication, productivity and accountability, flexibility and adaptability, and community and global mindedness.
  • Explores learning opportunities for students beyond the traditional classroom setting
  • Leads efforts to provide accurate representation of student learning through the district’s work in standards-referenced grading practices.
  • Ensures instructional materials are current and relevant to the learning needs of all students.
  • Ensures implementation, instruction and learning utilizing current instructional technology.
  • Assumes responsibility and support for developing, administering, and reporting to the Department of Education.
    • District CASA including professional learning
    • Student and school reporting in Iowa, as well as other state and federal reports as assigned
    • Professional Learning Communities
    • Verification of graduation and dropout
    • Assessment accountability
    • Secondary CTE reporting
    • Non-public consultation
    • Curriculum design and resources
    • Selection/objection of instructional materials policy
  • Provides leadership and oversight of state required committees (Teacher Quality, Teacher Leadership & Compensation, Postsecondary Pathways, Academic School Improvement Advisory)
  • Directs, supervises and evaluates assigned departments and personnel.
  • Regularly attends Cabinet meetings to support and shape strategic planning and decision making.
  • Meets regularly with district and building administrators to support instructional services.
  • Attends Board of Education meetings to serve as a resource to the Superintendent or Board, and presents reports and presentations as requested.
  • Communicates with district personnel, parents/guardians, students, colleagues in other districts, and state Department of Education to coordinate activities and programs, resolve issues and conflicts, align efforts, and exchange information.
  • Develop and monitor assigned budgets in accordance with established guidelines and policies.
  • Assumes responsibility for the role of District Assessment Coordinator.
  • Engages in professional development related to responsibilities and duties.
  • Completes all required training.

  • Knowledge of instructional methodology, learning theory and practice, and assessment
  • Knowledge of contemporary models and best practices for staff development
  • Satisfactory adherence to the Iowa Standards for School Leaders
  • Computer proficiency in programs and applications relevant to area of responsibility
  • Ability to handle adversity in a constructive manner
  • Ability to grasp and adjust to new and changing situations
  • Effective collaborative decision-making skills
  • Demonstrates initiative and ability to work without close supervision
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, problem-solving and organizational skills
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with all stakeholders
  • Competency working in a culturally diverse environment

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Frequent walking, standing and sitting
  • Occasional stooping, bending and kneeling
  • Carrying and lifting up to 25 lbs.
  • Use of hands to finger, handle and feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms
  • Specific vision abilities to include close, distance and peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus
  • Ability to travel within district
  • Occasional exposure to irritated or agitated individuals
  • Indoor work environment primarily in an office or school setting

Salary : $148,770 - $165,310
