JOB SUMMARY: Under the supervision of the Director of SEBMH, the SEBMH Implementation Specialist is responsible for implementing, evaluating and sustaining a district-wide Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) to meet the social, emotional, behavioral and mental health needs of PreK- 12 students in partnership with building and instructional services teams. The SEBMH Implementation Specialist also provides job-embedded professional learning, technical support and coaching to district and building-level staff in implementing a Multi-Tiered System of Supports and ensuring fidelity of implementation.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Counseling, Social Work, Psychology or related field
  • Minimum of 6 years of professional experience working with children in an educational, counseling or social work setting
  • Minimum of 2 years of professional experience in a leadership role
  • Valid Iowa license in teaching, counseling, social work or psychology

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES

MTSS Implementation

  • Collaborates with administrators and teacher leaders to develop, implement, and refine school-wide MTSS frameworks for social, emotional, behavior, and mental health.
  • Assists teams in identifying, implementing, and monitoring interventions aligned to data-based decisions.
  • Facilitates the integration of social, emotional, behavioral and mental health strategies and interventions across school settings.
  • Builds capacity for school staff and MTSS teams to provide social, emotional, behavioral and mental health interventions through routines and practices.
  • Collaborates with building MTSS teams to develop and support student behavior plans, including intervention and progress monitoring for both general education students and entitled individuals.

Data Analysis & Problem Solving

  • Supports data teams in reviewing attendance, behavior, social emotional, and intervention data to identify trends and determine student needs.
  • Guides teachers and building teams to create and monitor progress for individualized student intervention plans.
  • Uses data to evaluate the effectiveness of Tier 1 systems and interventions at Tier 2 and 3.

Coaching & Professional Development

  • Provides ongoing support, and professional learning to staff on implementing Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3 social-emotional and behavioral strategies.
  • Models evidence-based classroom management and social emotional teaching practices.
  • Engages in instructional coaching cycles around social, emotional, behavioral and mental health.
  • Facilitates teacher collaboration to analyze behavior, attendance, social-emotional data, and co-develops responsive strategies.
  • Builds staff capacity to support students with diverse needs by utilizing restorative practices, trauma-informed care, and positive behavior interventions.
  • Engages in professional development related to responsibilities and duties.
  • Completes required training.

Collaboration

  • Collaborates with building and district leaders to create the structures and processes necessary for each school to sustain an effective social, emotional, behavioral, and mental health MTSS system.
  • Collaborates with building and district leadership to align initiatives with strategic goals and actions.

Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

  • Thorough knowledge of MTSS frameworks, practices and processes to support SEBMH needs
  • Knowledge of assessment and data-based decision-making methods for formative and progress monitoring of SEBMH
  • Knowledge of best practices in curriculum, instruction, positive behavior support, assessment and staff development
  • Excellent interpersonal, problem-solving and organizational skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to coach, consult and provide professional learning
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with all stakeholders
  • Ability to maintain appropriate levels of confidentiality
  • Demonstrates initiative and ability to work without close supervision
  • Proficient in technology relevant to areas of responsibility
  • Competency working in a culturally diverse environment

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Frequent sitting, moderate walking and standing
  • Occasional stooping, squatting, bending and kneeling
  • Carrying and lifting up to 25 lbs.
  • Use of hands to finger, handle and feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms
  • Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus
  • Indoor work environment primarily in an office or school setting
  • Ability to travel within district

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 194 days with additional work covered by stipend
