Description
The mission of the Public Utilities Department is to provide citizens of Johnston County efficient, affordable, and friendly services of Water Supply, Wastewater Collection and Treatment, Reclaimed Water, and Stormwater Management. The Public Utilities Department is seeking a full-time Electrical Maintenance Technician performing entry-level work in the maintenance and repair of water, wastewater, and electrical equipment and facilities.
Work involves the responsibility of performing tasks to maintain efficient operations of the public utilities systems. Work assignments may arise as a result of equipment breakdowns, inspections, or preventative maintenance procedures. The ability to work well with others and listen to instruction carefully is critical in keeping a safe work environment.
Possession of or the ability to earn a Maintenance Technologist certification within 18 months of hire is required.
Salary is dependent upon certification.
Starting salary is $19.80 hourly.

Duties and Responsibilities
- Assists and performs basic maintenance and troubleshoots a variety of electrical equipment related to pumping systems, chemical systems, electrical systems including Motor Control Centers, motors, manual and automatic generator systems, radio equipment, panel-boards and remote control equipment such as PLC's, as well as SCADA systems;
- Assists in the removal, repair and overhauls of pumps, motors, variable speed drives, reduced voltage soft starters, mechanical bar-screens, chemical feed systems, gas compressors, valves, blowers, radio communication systems and other types of equipment related to water or wastewater treatment plants and pumping facilities.
- Responsible for working with CMMS / Work Order system and maintaining proper logs of work performed and safety equipment used.
- Operates various trucks and other equipment to complete preventative maintenance and repairs, including forklifts.
- Utilizes a variety of mechanical, electrical, and machinists' tools to fabricate, rebuild, strengthen, and maintain various parts and pieces of plant and pumping station equipment.
- Orders supplies and materials as required for completion of various work assignments; prepares and maintains related documents and records.
- Interprets performance data, evaluates testing data and performance, and maintains performance data records and preventive maintenance schedules.
- Maintains the working environment in a clean and orderly condition.
- Performs routine housekeeping and conducts regular site safety inspections.
