Description
The Solid Waste Division of Johnston County has an immediate opening for a Part-Time Weighmaster at the Johnston County Landfill. There are no benefits associated with this part time position.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Weighs vehicles entering and exiting solid waste facility to compute net weight of solid waste materials to be disposed of and user fees.
- Advises users on proper access, location and use of solid waste facility.
- Identifies users and classifies solid waste materials.
- Rejects hazardous and/or liquid waste.
- Enforces Federal, State and local regulations related to disposal of solid waste.
- Receives cash payments from users.
- Answers phones and responds to customer questions.
- Prepares and maintains records and reports pertaining to all landfill scale, weight, user fees, and recycling activities.
- Closes out records on a daily basis and verifies daily cash reports.
- Prepares money for deposit.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of record keeping practices and procedures.
- Knowledge of computer inquiry/updating equipment.
- Skill in the operation of vehicle weighing scales.
- Ability to make arithmetical computations rapidly and accurately.
- Ability to keep cash accounts, financial records and reports.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and the general public.
Desired Education and Experience
Graduation from high school and some experience in clerical work involving maintaining accounts, record keeping, computer terminal operations and public contact; or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
