POSITIONS: AIG Specialist - Elementary or Middle School

SALARY: Teacher Salary Schedule
TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: 10 Months
REPORTS TO: Chief Academic Officer
Executive Director of Advanced Learning
POSITION SUMMARY: The AIG Specialist works closely with the middle or elementary school AIG Leads, teachers, and other school based staff to integrate AIG programs and services in regular educational settings to address the academic, intellectual, social, and emotional needs of gifted learners. This position requires a track record of excellence as a classroom teacher and exemplary skills in developing, implementing, and assessing differentiated instructional strategies to improve the academic achievement of gifted learners. The AIG Specialist will provide appropriate support through direct and indirect teaching, co-teaching, and small group instruction. Additionally, the candidate will support the District Advanced Learning Coaches and school AIG Leads to ensure the implementation of the local AIG Plan and accountability of the AIG programs and services.
QUALIFICATIONS AND ATTRIBUTES:
- Must hold valid North Carolina Educator’s Continuing Teaching License
- Must hold certification in Gifted Education
- Minimum of 3 years of classroom teaching experience
- Ability to collect, analyze, and use data
- Knowledgeable of technical material, software application, conflict resolution, regulations and policies, adult learning best practices, as well as curriculum and instructional methods
- Must exhibit in-depth knowledge of the North Carolina Standard Course of Study and strong instructional pedagogy
- Knowledgeable of North Carolina State and National Gifted Standards
- Ability to work independently, manage time and resources to accomplish assigned tasks
- Ability to follow all local, state, and federal policies for North Carolina school educators
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provides an atmosphere and environment conducive to the intellectual, physical, social and emotional development of advanced and AIG identified learners
- Provides direct and indirect instruction to address the academic, intellectual, social, and emotional needs of advanced and AIG identified learners
- Plans and provides for appropriate classroom learning experiences for advanced and AIG identified learners
- Collaborates with school personnel to ensure differentiation and rigor at middle or elementary schools through planning, coaching, co-teaching, and modeling with students
- Provides small group instruction for advanced and AIG identified learners
- Develops and differentiates instructional plans and materials to meet the needs of advanced and AIG identified students
- Organizes enrichment experiences to develop potential within students and enhance the learning experience
- Ensures district-wide implementation of the JCPS AIG plan and accountability of the JCPS AIG program
- Serves on the School Site Review Team to support with screening, referral, identification and placement procedures of gifted students
- Monitors and evaluates student outcomes
- Communicates and interacts with students, teachers, parents, and the school community
- Works closely with the school AIG Lead, teachers, and other staff members to integrate AIG programs and services in regular educational settings
- Coordinates and manages storage and distribution of gifted instructional materials and resource at the school level in conjunction with the school AIG Lead
- Performs other related work as required
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to communicate effectively in written and oral forms
- Requires the ability to speak before groups of people with poise, voice control and confidence
- Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of fingering, grasping, kneeling, sitting, walking, stooping, reaching, lifting, pushing, pulling, talking, seeing, hearing, and repetitive motion
