Johnston County Emergency Services is seeking an EMS Training Officer. Johnston County's EMS division is responsible for overseeing provisions of Emergency Medical Services throughout the county, providing oversight to medical dispatch, fire department medical responders, and contracted EMS Agencies.
An EMS Training Officer in this position is responsible for overseeing and recording the training activities of all agencies providing EMS services in the County, and administering the day-to-day training activities of the County's EMS staff. Through consultation with the department's division managers and Emergency Services Director, designs training objectives, schedules instructors, and coordinates the department's Continuing Education Program.
Work subjects the employee to high stress situations, inside and outside environmental conditions, extreme temperatures, noise, vibration, hazards associated with emergency management work and fumes, chemicals, dusts, odors, gases, and oils.Work also subject to the OSHA standards on blood borne pathogens.

- Develops and oversees remediation programs and works closely with employees to correct performance deficiencies.
- Performs in accordance with State regulations and established varied emergency procedures and techniques.
- Maintains training records and performs administrative work required for re-credentialing of applicable staff;
- Maintains continuing education records and mandatory class requirement compliance for employees.
- Schedules, oversees, and evaluates emergency response drills and exercises for the EMS Division,
- Assists in the development of other multi-jurisdictional exercises where needed or required for other department divisions, and
- Prepares and delivers oral and/or written reports pertaining to the efficiency of staff.
- Performs related duties as required.

- Thorough knowledge of the equipment and supplies used in various emergency settings including the emergency care of patients and accident victims.
- Thorough knowledge of the laws, regulations, and policies governing various emergency services functions including emergency medical care and operations.
- Initiative and independent judgment are required.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.
- Must be able to perform heavy work exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to lift, to move objects.
- Must be able to carry appropriate bags and equipment to handle an emergency situation.
- Must be able to lift at least 200 pounds with a partner, lift and carry appropriate emergency bags, and use proper carrying techniques when loading and unloading a patient.
- Must possess the visual acuity to operate an emergency medical ambulance or other vehicle and distinguish detail and differences when observing people, places and things on medical emergency calls.
- Associate's Degree from an accredited college or university in Emergency Medical Services or other relevant area
- 5 years of Paramedic experience in Emergency Medical Services, including some supervisory and training experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of the position;
- Knowledge of Emergency Medical Dispatch procedures;
- Paramedic certification and a valid driver's license are required;
- Current provider and instructor certifications with the N. C. Office of Emergency Medical Services and/or community college system are preferred and are required within six months of employment
