What are the responsibilities and job description for the Social Worker Investigative/Assessment & Treatment - In Home Child Protective Services position at Johnston County?
The Johnston County DSS mission is to serve, aid and protect needy and vulnerable children and adults in ways that strengthen and preserve families. We provide human services programs that are intended to promote the health, well-being, self-sufficiency and protection of families, children and adults within our community.
Johnston County Department of Social Services has immediate openings for a Social Worker Investigative Assessment and Treatment in the In-Home Services Unit.
Preference will be given to applicants with prior Child Welfare experience and/ or completion of mandatory Child Welfare training within the last 3 years.
*Will accept Social Worker III work against, if fully qualified applicants are not located.* To develop a Family Services case plan or intervention plan which is applicable to individual cases where abuse, neglect or dependency have been determined.
The goal is to work with the family, community support and community providers to provide services and assistance in attempting to alleviate any abuse, neglect and/or dependency with the goal of maintaining the family unit.
This position will conduct Family Assessments only current open cases as needed should additional abuse, neglect and/or dependency allegations arise. In-Home services will seek legal intervention at any given time in order to ensure a child's safety.
The family services case plan will be reviewed and prescribed intervals and more if necessary to monitor progress in achieving identified goals.
The worker will provide intensive in-home mentoring and guidance, and/or connect the family with various community resources and services to address the abuse, neglect and/or dependency issues with the goal to eliminate intervention and to maintain the original family unit and to ensure the provision of a safe and permanent home to all juveniles within the parameters of said family unit.
This position is required to be available to provide after hour/on-call coverage as needed and required during non-agency hours.
Or
Four year degree in a human service field or related curriculum including at least 15 semester hours in courses related to social work or counseling and three years of social work or counseling experience; or graduation from a four-year college or university and four years of experience in rehabilitation counseling, pastoral counseling, or a related human service field providing experience in the techniques of casework, group work, or community organization; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

- Thorough knowledge of social work principles, techniques, and practices, and their application to complex casework, group work and community problems.
- Considerable knowledge of a wide range of medical behavioral and psychosocial problems and their treatment.
- Considerable knowledge of family and group dynamics and a range of intervention techniques. Considerable knowledge of governmental and private organizations and resources in the community.
- Considerable knowledge of the laws, regulations, and policies which govern the program. General knowledge of medical terminology, diseases processes and their treatment as they relate to decisions regarding clinical interventions and appropriate therapies based on medical or psychological diagnosis.
- Skill in establishing rapport with a client and in applying techniques of assessing psychosocial, behavioral, and psychological aspects of client's problems.
- Ability to supervise, train, or instruct lower-level social workers, students, interns in the program.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with members of caseload and their families as well as civic, legal, medical, social, and religious organizations.
- Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely and to plan and execute work effectively.
