Youth Pastor Job Description
The Youth Pastor will direct and oversee all areas of the children/teen ministries. This includes ministering, educating, and discipling children, teens, and their families. This role will also encompass general pastoral duties and care as the candidate supports and serves alongside the Senior Pastor.
The ideal candidate will possess a love for the Lord, his family, and God’s kingdom work through the local church of Johntown MBC as seen in their passion for reaching and discipling young people and their heart for pastoral care of all ages.
Position Title: Youth Pastor
Must be: Saved/Born-again believer, Baptist, and adhere to qualifications outlined in 1 Timothy 3:1-7 & Titus 1:1-5
Accountable to: First, accountable to God. Second, accountable to the Pastor/Elder.
Ministry Scope: Birth-12th grade
Report to: Pastor/Elder, Deacons, and Church
Position is: Paid Pastoral Staff
Salary: Commensurate w/ Experience plus House & Utilities, Seminary Assistance (Monetary & Flexibility to study), 2 weeks paid vacation
Hours w/ understanding that they will also be attending school functions, etc:
Sunday: 9am-12:30pm
Monday-Thursday: 9am-3pm
Friday: 9am-noon
Responsibilities
Youth Ministry
- Oversee Birth-12th ministries
- Identify needs of children/teens inside and outside church
- Plan and develop programs, activities, and fellowships for student ministry
- Identify and provide ministry opportunities for students and families
- Build strong relationships with parents of youth
- Provide encouragement and spiritual direction to these age groups
- Participate in outreach ministry by reaching out to those who have visited
- Lead the teenage Wednesday night ministry (Teach Lesson & Oversee Small Groups)
- Oversee all Sunday School classes for these age groups and be willing to teach a class (fill-in or on rotation)
- Participate in retreats and summer camps
- Recruit and disciple leaders
- Work w/ Children’s director & JMBC Ladies to ensure they have what they need to fulfill their duties as lay-leaders (VBS, Children’s Church, Nursery, Bethlehem, etc)
- Participate in fundraising events
- Support children/teens by attending school functions
Associate
- Fill-in for Pastor at his discretion (emergency, illness, vacation, etc)
- Be involved in the Bogata Food Pantry ministry
- Provide pastoral care to individuals and families (hospital visits, spiritual guidance/wisdom)
- Assist with administrative tasks (website, bulletin, outdoor sign, etc)
- Help with setup, tear down, and leading of church events
- All other duties assigned by the Pastor within the scope of JMBC’s mission

- Demonstrate a genuine love for working with the youth

- Attends all church services and functions unless otherwise specified
Required: High School Diploma (minimum); Background check
Preferred: Married w/ some Seminary Training/Christian Education
