What are the responsibilities and job description for the Services Associate - Greenhouse and Horse Barn (Part-Time) position at Join Us?
Qualifications: An interest in horses/other animals and related aspects of horse barn/farm tasks is required. One must be comfortable working with and around miniature horses as well as the large, full size, horses, chickens, dogs and guinea pigs. A previous history of working in the horticulture field, or desire to learn is also required. It is essential to be able to interact and work well with other team members as well as people from all other agencies, to take constructive criticism well, and follow directions. Previous experience working at a horse barn, previous involvement with the horse barn/THRIP program at McCoy Meadow and/or the Greenhouse/Hope Farm is preferred.
Essential Functions:
- Responsible for assisting with feeding and watering all chickens.
- Responsible for assisting with all aspects of animal husbandry – cleaning cages, runs, coops, etc.
- Responsible for collecting eggs daily.
- Interact positively with groups, families or others visiting the horse barn/greenhouse/farm.
- Assist in providing day to day plant care - ensuring that plants receive correct levels of water, nutrients, light level etc.
- Assist with insect and disease management.
- Harvest and wash produce for NHC homes.
- Anything else deemed necessary by the Greenhouse/THRIP staff.
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements
This position requires constant movement. This includes: pushing, pulling, bending, squatting, etc. There is a frequent need to lift up to 25 pounds independently and up to 50 pounds with assistance. The work environment is subject to varying weather conditions as well as temperatures, ranging from warm to inclement. One must be comfortable and willing to work in these varying conditions.
Hourly rate for this position is $15.50 an hour.
