The Health Services Specialist assists in the implementation and coordination of a preventative health program for children and families.
Full time, Non-Exempt
Location: On-Site
Hourly Rate of Pay: $22.39

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
- Under the Supervision of the Health and Disabilities Services Coordinator documents and follow(s)-up health records of all children enrolled in the Head Start/Early Head Start program (changed from on caseload).
- Inputs family and child contacts, screening data, referrals, goal progress, and etc. into CAPTAIN at least weekly.
- Evaluates and recommends to the follow-up needs of health profiles, including vital statistics and other data of children and families enrolled in the program.
- Completes files by obtaining the necessary follow-up from appropriate agencies/resources.
- Assists the management team with the development of policies and procedures that pertain to the Health Services area.
- Is involved with the planning and organization of the Health Advisory committee.
- Serves as an advocate for child health and/or families in securing necessary health services.
- Assists in the implementation of the programs wellness program.
- Assists in the development of educational activities and helps teaching staff in its implementation.
- Promotes preventative health services and early intervention.
- Travel is required.
- Assists in designing and conducting health education for parents under the direction of the Health and Disabilities Services Coordinator.
- Administers vision screenings for all children enrolled in the program and follow up with any children who may need additional treatment.
- Administers hearing screenings for all children enrolled in the Early Head Start program and follow up with any children who may need additional treatment.
- Schedules dental screenings for all children enrolled in the program with the dental consultant and follow up with any children who may need additional treatment.
- As a mandated reporter, reports and provides supportive services in child abuse cases working in conjunction with the Manager.
- Attends all required training.
- Complies with all health and safety regulations.
- Assists program with ensuring the appropriate documentation of Non Federal Share for all volunteers and donations to Head Start or Early Head Start.
- Performs all duties in a manner consistent with the mission and goals of the Joint Council for Economic Opportunity, Inc.
- Performs all other related duties as assigned.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Graduate of an accredited licensed practical nursing program with experience and training in health education. In addition, experience/knowledge working with children 0-5 preferred.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Current NYS LPN license, CPR, and First Aid and valid driver’s license recognized by NYS.
