Description
The Surgery Scheduler is responsible for scheduling patients for surgery and advising patients of surgical preoperative requirements, coordination of pre operative and post operative care, and patient education. This position is also responsible for coordinating and scheduling appointments for surgeries and procedures at the clinic, ambulatory surgery center, or hospital setting.
Essential functions include but are not limited to:
- Coordinate and schedule surgeries and procedures and follow-up appointments as designated by physicians according to established policies and procedures
- Interact with patients, physicians and other staff within the clinic and at outside facilities providing accurate, timely and responsive information
- Coordinate processes and timing as required to meet physician and facility requirements.
- Coordinate arrangements for surgical assistants, special equipment, and surgical materials
- Provide patient with generic preoperative information sheets and advise patients of preoperative surgical requirements
- Submit patient clinical and financial information to facility assuring appropriate medical records release, when necessary
- Answer and screen telephone calls in a courteous manner, and record messages for physician and other clinical staff
- Obtain accurate information from patients and ensure all registration forms are complete
- Maintain files and patient records in a confidential manner
- Perform other related duties as directed or assigned
Requirements
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Working knowledge of Electronic Medical Records
- Strong understanding of medical terminology
- Intermediate understanding of medical insurance and billing
- Ability to work independently, attention to detail, and able to multitask efficiently
- Enthusiastic and positive attitude
- Ability to remain focused and organized in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to represent the organization and serve consumers in a professional manner and promote a positive image of the organization and its services
Education and Experience:
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Previous surgery scheduling experience (preferred)
Physical Requirements:
- Requires long periods of seated work, including computer work
- Requires repetitive bending, standing, sitting, reaching, lifting, walking, pushing, squatting
- May occasionally require lifting up to 15 pounds without assistance
