JIB Medical is seeking an experienced Optometrist to join our JIB Medical team of professionals. Reporting to the Medical Director and Assistant Medical Director, the Optometrist will be responsible for but not limited to:
What you'll be doing
Clinical duties
- Within the scope of optometry, examine eyes, using observation, instruments and pharmaceutical agents, to determine visual acuity and perception, focus and coordination, and to diagnose diseases and other abnormalities such as glaucoma or color blindness
- Communicate with patients to get detailed patient history.
- Examining eyes of patients of ages >2 and able to read letters/shapes; to detect signs of injury, disease, abnormality or vision defects
- Being aware of signs and symptoms of general health condition (e.g. diabetes)
- Provide patients undergoing eye surgeries, such as cataract and laser vision correction, with pre- and post-operative care.
- Analyze results and develop a treatment plan
- Prescribe, supply, fit and adjust eyeglasses, contact lenses and other vision aids.
- Offer advice for patients choosing frames and lenses
- Prescribe therapeutic procedures to correct or conserve vision
- Prescribe medications to treat eye diseases as state laws permit
- Educate and counsel patients on visual hygiene, lighting arrangements and safety factors.
- Offer advice and reassurance about vision-related matters
- Consult with and refer patients to an ophthalmologist or other health care practitioner if additional medical treatment is determined necessary
- Liaising with other medical practitioners and sometimes sharing the care of patients with chronic ophthalmic conditions
- Generate reports for patients as needed, e.g. driver’s license
Administrative duties include Greeting patients and updating and filing patients' medical records
Work Environment
This job operates in a professional optical center -- customer service environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as optical instruments and machines within the scope of practice.
Physical Demands
Sedentary work environment. Physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the functions of this job. This would require the ability to stand, bend, shred documents, open/close filing cabinets as necessary.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a part-time exempt position. 2-3 days per week which includes Saturday. Saturday work hours are 9:00AM-2:00PM.
We are flexible Monday through Friday from 9:00am-6:00pm or 10:00am-7:00 pm on Wednesday and we're closed on Sunday.
