Salary Range: $27.44-$33.32 DOQ

Summary
Under the direct supervision of the Director of Parks Services, Maintenance Worker I performs routine manual labor, unskilled and semiskilled work involved in the construction, repair and maintenance of parks, park streets, sidewalks and park facilities.
Essential Duties

- Repairs and patches streets, sidewalks and curbs.
- Operates manual and motorized equipment, including but not limited to, air hammers and compressors.
- Performs minor maintenance and custodial work on park equipment and facilities, including patching and painting, changing light bulbs, assemble light furniture.
- Position uses some skilled tools such as hammer, screwdriver, wrenches, and drills.
- Installs and replaces signs and park equipment
- Cuts and trims grass and brush, plants, trims and sprays trees and grounds. Maintains parks, facilities and grounds.
- Makes visual and operational check of equipment and performs minor maintenance on trucks and equipment.
- Painting and interior maintenance in all Park District facilities
- Other duties as assigned.
Hours
This position may require evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Work environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and equipment and in outdoor weather conditions. Employee frequently works in precarious situations and is exposed to fumes, airborne particles and other hazards and elements associated with construction sites. The noise level within the employee’s work environment frequently exceeds the normal decibel levels.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
Education and Experience
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of training and experience
Additional eligibility requirements
Valid Illinois driver’s license
CPR and AED certification or ability to obtain within 30 days
