Position Summary
The Animal Control Officer is responsible for enforcing local ordinances and state laws regarding stray, dangerous, nuisance and unwanted domestic animals; investigates complaints; patrols assigned areas; captures animals; performs other duties related to humane animal protection and control.
Duties and Responsibilities:
· Investigates complaints from the public and other agencies regarding nuisance, stray, uncontrolled, dangerous or diseased animals.
· Conducts investigations of complaints regarding animal cruelty and neglect; investigates animal bites, arranging for appropriate identification and quarantine.
· Issues citations for violations of applicable regulations; patrols assigned areas operating Township vehicles.
· Captures stray animals for impounding; removes dead domestic animals from public and private properties; transports injured animals and provides for their care.
· May testify in court regarding citations and disposition of complaints.
· Operates humane traps, cellular phones, and related animal control tools and equipment.
· Identifies basic symptoms of common animal diseases and recommends veterinary medical care of isolation to the animal owner.
· May speak to and meet with a variety of community, business and educational organizations to further goals of the program.
· Represents the Township with dignity, integrity, and a spirit of cooperation in all relationships with staff and the public.

· Performs all other duties as assigned by the Animal Control Director and Assistant Director.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Passion for animal welfare
- Maintaining accurate and legible records and preparing basic reports using Petpoint.
- Experience in the opportunities and challenges of working with wildlife, pets, and people.
- Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and handle multiple tasks at one time.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Ability to adhere to the Township’s confidentiality policy.
- Skill in effectively communicating with residents, elected officials, partnering government agencies, and regulatory agencies.
Education, Experience, and Computer Skills:
- Valid Illinois Driver’s License
- Computer skills preferred: Microsoft Office and Petpoint
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
Pay: From $27.00 per hour
