Overview

The Civil Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the construction equipment.

This position requires 100% travel throughout the United States

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Performs manual work as directed by the supervisor; lifts, carries and holds material, tools and supplies.
Operates heavy equipment in a safe and appropriate manner.
Performs daily maintenance and safety checks of equipment.
Conducts pre-operational checks on equipment, and clean, lubricate and refill equipment as necessary.
Follows directions of ground crew regarding craning, gravel placement and grading.
Operates heavy equipment on public roadways, maintaining proper awareness of one's surroundings.
Performs routine cleaning and maintenance to ensure smooth operation of equipment.
Follows direction of Foreman as to daily tasks and expectations for each specific project or jobsite.
Assists in the placement, moving, and dismantling of dunnage, roll plastic, signs, barricades, cones, other traffic control devices, etc.
Regular and predictable attendance at assigned times is required.
Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED is preferred.

Minimum 3 to 5 years' experience operating heavy equipment is required.

Ability to read, write and do basic mathematical calculations.

Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions and effectively communicate verbally and in writing.

Ability to use equipment and tools properly and safely.

Willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required.

Must be willing to travel and work away from home for long periods of time when required; nights and weekend shifts when required.

Individuals are required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) in designated operations and production areas as stated by OSHA and / or MSHA.

Compliance with all OSHA, PHMSA, and / or MSHA regulations.

Physical Requirements

Duties outlined in this position will require the employee to stand, crouch, sit, bend, use hands and fingers to handle or feel as well as reaching with hands and arms to spaces both high and low. The employee will be standing, walking, climbing, balancing, crawling, crouching, lifting, holding, or stooping a moderate amount of time while on shift.

The noise level in the work environment for this position may be moderate to high, ear protection Is required.

Employees performing functions of this position are routinely exposed to outside weather conditions which can include but is not limited to : extreme heat and cold temperatures; inclement weather such as rain, snow, sleet and dust as well as adverse driving conditions including wet roads, icy roads, and fog.

Employees performing these job functions are required to lift or move up to 10 pounds and frequently lift or move up to 50 pounds.

Employees in this job classification may be exposed to dust, fumes or other airborne pathogens.
