What are the responsibilities and job description for the Crating & Shipping Technician - Full-Time & Part-Time position at Jones Sign?
This position is located at our facility in De Pere, WI.
Schedule: Monday through Friday, overtime if needed.
As a team member in our Pack, Load, Crate department, you’ll be responsible for ensuring all finished product is properly packed for shipping. As the work varies from day-to-day, our most successful technicians have a strong work ethic, comfort adapting to change, and the ability to improvise and solve problems.
Duties & Expectations:
- Ensuring products are properly packaged to prevent damage during transit
- Apply protective materials such as foam or bubble wrap as needed
- Safely operate a forklift to load and unload trucks with crated and palletized products
- Inspect products before crating for any defects or damage
- Review job summary to ensure product matches
- Use basic hand tools, chop saw, and panel saw as needed per job specifications
- Inspect and verify items. Thoroughly inspect items to be shipped for any damage or discrepancies. Verify that the items match the shipping orders and documentation.
- Operate shipping equipment. Safely operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and other shipping equipment to move and load packages. Ensure that all equipment is in good working condition and report any issues promptly
- Consistently following quality standards before closing out a job
- Consistently demonstrate sound safety practices by staying compliant with monthly safety training
- Effectively manage time to ensure on-time delivery of every project
- Identify job variations, use critical thinking and innovation to effectively finish the job
- Collaborate with the Pack, Load, Crate and other production teams to meet ship dates
Work Environment:
- Work conditions consist of a manufacturing plant environment with standing, bending, and twisting 90% of the day.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. on a regular basis.
- Safety glasses and steel tipped work boots must always be worn.
- Gloves and ear protection as required per fabrication function.
- Must be able to work in a variety of work environments, such as cold and hot weather (depending on area)
Physical Demands:
- Must be able to stoop, crawl, walk, and stand for long periods
Education, Experience, and Skills:
- Carpentry skills
- Experience with basic hand tools
- Forklift experience preferred
- Ability to identify and resolve issues related to shipping and crating
- Proficiency in using woodworking tools and equipment
