Parent Educator Position

Job Summary:

Provide in home prenatal and parenting education and support visits utilizing the Parents as Teachers curriculum to promote positive prenatal and parenting experiences; encourage and improve child health and development; and prevent and/or reduce child abuse and neglect. Assesses for family strengths and needs factors and refers as needed. Improve maternal knowledge and enhance family functioning by building trusting relationships; teaching problem-solving skills; improving the family’s support system; promoting positive parent-child interaction and relationships.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assist at-risk prenatal women in best prenatal practices, in learning about child development, positive parenting practices and parent- child interaction through home visitation services, utilizing the Parents as Teachers curriculum.
  • Relate to families from a strength-based model and establish a trusting relationship with identified at-risk prenatal women and families by initiating and maintaining regular contact and support of families in their home.
  • Establish a Family Goal Plan with families, with goals/objectives related to needs of the identified prenatal woman, child(ren), parent(s), and family with a set target date for completion and implements the case plan as a guide for service provision and updates when due.
  • Effectively manage assigned caseload and related responsibilities, including assessments, goal-planning, parenting education provision, and keep forms and assessments updated and meet prescribed due dates.
  • Document accurately all services provided in progress notes as well as program required documentation and maintain well organized family files.
  • Demonstrate the agencies’ values of compassion, respect, adaptability, and learning.
  • Participate in agency Performance and Quality Improvement initiatives.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Program Director/Coordinator.

Job Requirements:

  • Child Development Associate (CDA) or higher degree such as a Bachelor’s or Associate degree in early childhood education, Social Work, or related human service fields.
  • Prior experience working with pre/postnatal women, infants, children, and their families, home visitation experience strongly preferred.
  • Excellent written and oral communication and listening skills.
  • Knowledge of community resources.
  • Ability to establish a trusting relationship with families.
  • Valid Arkansas driver’s license and a car for business use with a good driving record.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds to carry forms, parent-child activity materials, and basic need items to one’s car and into house or locations for group connections.
  • Ability to work with culturally diverse populations and in geographical areas that are identified as higher risk areas.

  • 30 hours weekly
  • Monday through Friday

Work Location:

  • Jonesboro and the Craighead County surrounding areas
