We are looking for a Circulation Assistant to support the Circulation Department by serving the needs of library patrons and organizing the return of library materials to their designated locations. This is a clerical position requiring outstanding customer service skills, strong attention to detail, excellent organizational proficiency, familiarity with Library policies and procedures, and the ability to interpret these to the public.
Examples of Work Performed:
- Checks materials in and out
- Issues library cards
- Assists patrons in circulation procedures, such as holds, renewals, and item searches
- Collects and records payments
- Interprets and enforces Library policies
- Maintains shelves of collections housed near the Circulation Desk
- Instructs patrons in basic library use, including the use of catalog terminals
- Assists patrons in the use of study rooms and conference rooms
- Sorts materials according to collection codes for shelving
- Organizes and shelves library materials
- Straightens and reshelves materials as needed
- Assists in conducting collection inventory
- Answers telephone calls and directs patrons to the appropriate department
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Circulation Manager
- Serves as a U.S. Passport Acceptance Agent (once certified)
Requirements for Position:
- Two years customer service experience required or two years post high school education completed (college, technical or trade school, the military, etc)
- Must provide documentation of U.S. citizenship
- Ability to interpret and apply Library policies and procedure
- Excellent communication and public relations skills
- High clerical aptitude, detail-oriented
- Above average computer skills, with working knowledge of Google Drive applications
- Ability to bend, lift, and carry repetitively
- Strong aptitude for organization and alphabetizing
- Must be able to work independently
- High level of dependability and able to work a flexible schedule
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $14.40 per hour
Expected hours: 20 per week
