What are the responsibilities and job description for the Water Treatment Operator position at Jordanelle Special Service District?
Overview:
Under the direction of the Water Treatment Manager and/or Treatment Lead Operator, maintains the Districts water treatment plants. Services Pumps, motors, gearboxes, mixers, and all other mechanical equipment. Monitors treatment plant water quality at frequent intervals; uses knowledge of water treatment to make appropriate adjustments to chemicals and flows, as well as working with the operations staff in maintaining water quality in the treatment plants and distribution system. Monitors and performs various tasks to ensure all work is performed accurately to meet and exceed all state and federal drinking water regulations. The operator may interface with customers, contractors, and consultants, representing the needs and interests of the district.
Responsibilities:
- Operate district treatment facilities.
- Services Pumps, motors, gearboxes, mixers, and all other mechanical equipment.
- Prioritize daily tasks; communicate tasks effectively to all staff members involved.
- Monitor raw and treated water flows and pumping rates as needed.
- Monitor reservoir revels.
- Assist in maintaining plant facilities and grounds.
- Assist in ensuring cleanliness of treatment facilities.
- Assist in water quality sampling and laboratory analysis.
- Perform daily tasks to ensure all water quality instrumentation is working correctly.
- Assist in maintaining mechanical equipment in all treatment facilities.
- Participate in all safety programs of the district.
- Gathers data for use in evaluating plant procedures and operations.
- Participates in special projects, collecting and evaluating data, and making suggestions for plant implementation.
· Performs laboratory testing of water quality through various analysis, to ensure compliance with federal and state agencies.
- Provide guidance to all operations management staff on water-quality, problem-solving and regulatory compliance.
- Participate in and support the company’s continuous improvement programs and projects.
· Maintain water certifications as required.
· Requires on-call rotation and the ability to respond to emergency call outs (must be able to respond within 30 minutes).
· Practices safe working procedures at all times
· Performs other duties as assigned
Experience:
· High school diploma or GED
· Valid Utah Driver License
· Minimum 1-year job-related experience
· Ability to acquire Treatment IV certification within the first year of employment.
· Basic computer knowledge
· Possess knowledge of water distribution/treatment systems and facilities.
· Ability to logically solve problems.
· Possess the physical and mental ability to perform necessary tasks.
· Knowledge and ability to know what work needs to be performed, and ensure the work being performed is done in a safe, correct, and timely manner.
· Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, contractors, other agencies, and the public.
· Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
· Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
