The job of "Special Education Teacher " is done for the purpose(s) of facilitating Special Education student success in the least restrictive environment in the areas of academics, interpersonal/social skills, self management, and activities of daily living through implementing district approved curriculum; documenting teaching and student progress/activities, outcomes; addressing specific needs of students; providing a safe and optimal learning environment and providing feedback to students, parents and administration regarding student progress, expectations, goals, and to ensure access to general education curriculum and non-disabled peers to the greatest extent possible.
Plan and implement motivating and creative age appropriate activities to address goals as outlined in each students’ IEP.
• Collaborate and co-teach with general education teacher in an inclusion setting
• Collaborate with other teachers and therapists to implement an integrated educational/ therapeutic model.
• Develop lesson plans, progress reports and IEPs within specified timelines as directed.
• Create a learning environment where the students are stimulated and motivated to work to their best potential.
• Design and implement appropriate academic and social goals for all students.
• Facilitate interactions among children that provide opportunities for emotional, social and cognitive growth.
• Collaborate with other educators and specialists in the planning, adapting and teaching of the curriculum for all learners.
• Maintain data records on each student’s progress in order to be used to write accurate evaluations and/or progress reports.
• Develop, implement, and maintain proactive, open and transparent contact with families.
