Bethune Family Advocate

Joseph’s House & Shelter, an award winning non-profit agency in the Capital Region is looking for an Advocate to join our team. We are actively seeking one Advocate to support and assist families in maintaining stable housing in the community while practicing the principles of Housing First and Harm Reduction

Our programs utilize Harm Reduction Principles and Housing First model in reaching our mission of "Providing non-judgmental services to end homelessness.” The right candidate would be non-judgmental, recognize each individual's strengths, capacities, and right to self-determination. The right candidate will affirm each person’s dignity and respect while committing to Housing First and Harm Reduction principles. Duties are varied and involve helping to support families in maintaining housing and meeting their goals.

Duties and responsibilities

• Assist families to meet their personal life goals in a manner consistent with the culture, values and beliefs of the participants
• Assist families with housing disputes including but not limited to landlords, maintenance, neighbors, etc
• Provide assistance with the team to coordinate and distribute donations for specific events throughout the year i.e. Back to School, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter etc
• Provide assistance with the team to coordinate and distribute donations as families request and are in need of them throughout the year
• Complete documentation required by funding sources which includes but is not limited to; HMIS updates, initial assessments, income updates, inspections, consents, annual paperwork, housing documentation and any other updates as needed
• Complete monthly home visits with families and assess housing stability
• Communicate and coordinate with other service agencies to ensure the best interest in the families and their needs
• Ability to take on-call responsibilities

Pay & Schedule:

• $16/hr.
• Monday through Friday ( may require some nights and weekends depending on program needs)
• Rotating on-call schedule
