Position: Produce Department Manager
Fresh produce is the first thing our customers see when they walk into Joseph’s. Our Produce Department Manager plays a critical role in maintaining our quality standards and presentation of this department. Fresh produce is very perishable so our produce clerks must have the ability to maintain quality and attention to detail.
Routine Tasks:
- Ensures Produce department staff is providing customer service up to the Joseph’s standard
- Maintains Joseph’s standards for product freshness and sanitation
- Responsible for controlling budgets and hitting Sales targets, profit margin targets, payrolls targets and supplies targets
- Submits orders and manages inventory to prevent out of stocks and abundances that lead to waste
- Sells products by providing customers with product information, answering questions and making suggestions. Trains their team to do the same.
- Ensures all new and existing Produce associates are properly trained and equipped with knowledge and tools to perform their jobs up to company standards
- Writes and ensures labor schedule is adhered to
- Replenishes, maintains, and rotates products and display cases
- Packages and labels products for self-service, and ensures product signage is accurate
- Cutting and preparing fruits and vegetables for sale
- Unload product from delivery trucks, break down pallets and separate produce items in back room prep areas and walk in refrigerators
- Cleaning scales and cutting areas
- Operates knives, pallet jack, scale, and other Produce equipment
- Assists with other tasks as assigned

A Produce Department Manager performs their tasks primarily in the Produce department and the prep/backdoor receiving area. Must have the ability to clearly articulate the company’s goals and follow up on tasks and projects to achieve those goals. Must be able to resolve conflicts and promote a positive environment where all department associates enjoy coming to work. Work involves walking, standing for prolonged periods, and lifting products weighing up to 80 pounds. Work also includes frequent interaction with customers and fellow employees.
