Responsibilities
- Completion of standard procedures requiring precision and accuracy in support of laboratory operations and projects, as outlined in the department’s skill matrix for this job level.
- Able to keep organized records and complete documentation per GLP requirements and facility SOPs.
- Able to work with balances, meters, pumps, rotary evaporators, centrifuges, ovens, stir plates, GCs or HPLCs, and/or and other standard laboratory equipment, as assigned.
- Able to work with environmental samples like soils, plant parts, animal tissues, activated sludge, and pond water and sediment.
- Able to work with test compounds (including 14C-labeled materials), reference analytical substances, solvents, detergents, acids, bases, resins, silicone and activated carbon.
- Able to perform data handling and calculation of results.
- Able to make limited decisions on data acceptability (e.g. acceptable extractability and material balance) and appropriately engage senior staff for problem resolution and support.
- Possesses good technical writing skills in chemistry procedures [written and oral comprehension, written and oral expression]. Ability to integrate observations (visual and written, discrimination) into evaluation process.
- Possesses good mathematical reasoning (College level mathematics).
- Ability to work at a fast pace on multiple projects and prioritize work assignments
- Able to perform routine laboratory cleanliness, including routine clean-up and glassware washing.
- May be assigned ordering chemicals and supplies for the department and maintaining various inventories.
