What are the responsibilities and job description for the Shelter Advocate - PRN position at Journey Center for Safety and Healing?
Journey Center for Safety and Healing formerly known as Domestic Violence and Child Advocacy Center.
The Shelter Advocate works to ensure that clients at Journey Center's Emergency Shelter have a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for them to process their experiences and develop skills to a life free from domestic violence. Under the general supervision of shelter leadership, the Shelter Advocate provides support, advocacy, and general oversight of shelter operations and client wellbeing while clients are residing at the shelter.
Duties include but not limited to:
- answering 24 hour Helpline
- offering information and referrals
- performing phone intakes
- providing crisis intervention, advocacy, information, and referral to shelter residents
- determining the eligibility of individuals requesting shelter
- providing ongoing support and case management to residents
- mediating conflict among shelter residents
- maintaining documentation
- walking facility
- light housekeeping
- engaging with residents
- checking for safety and sanitation
- participating in shift change
Qualifications:
- Valid driver’s license required
- Bachelor’s Degree in a human services field or equivalent years of work experience preferred
- Experience working with victims of trauma, domestic violence and/or child abuse preferred
- Bilingual in Spanish and English preferred
Schedule and pay rate:
- PRN -scheduled as needed
- $15.75/hour. $17.85/hour for 3rd shift
Salary : $16 - $18
