What are the responsibilities and job description for the Vehicle Service Technician/Van Driver position at Journey Transport?
Journey Transport is a Service Disabled Veteran Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) with a satellite locations throughout California. We are currently seeking 2 persons to fill a hybrid position for Vehicle Service Technician (VST)/Van Driver.
Employees in this position will likely work a night shift (1800-0600). Shift times are subject to change with limited notice. Employees will primarily function as wheelchair/gurney van operators and will also perform vehicle maintenance and preparation which may include detailed vehicle inspections, minor maintenance/repairs, washing/cleaning vehicles, fueling, limited repairs, and staging vehicles prior to driver's shifts. Further, these personnel may also drive as relief drivers to augment our staff of drivers. Employee will also identify when major repairs are required and coordinate with our Fleet Manager and Operations staff.
We are seeking qualified individuals with some mechanical aptitude (we do NOT require a mechanic certification), and all qualifications listed below for our drivers.
Journey provides Non-Emergency Specialty Transportation to adults and children who require a little extra attention, support, and time to get to and from their medical appointments and school transit routes.
We are currently hiring for full-time positions. Benefits are available for full-time personnel after completion of our Introductory period (about 3 months). Applicants must be flexible with their availability, and able to work a varying schedule. We typically find out our transportation schedule 12-24 hours in advance, and schedule our drivers accordingly.
Currently, shifts occur 7 days a week and generally begin at 6pm and usually last approximately 12 hours. Nighttime and Sundays we generally utilize an on-call driver on a rotating schedule which all personnel participate in. Employees can expect to initially work 3-4 days per week on a varying schedule which may differ from day to day. Employees may be required to work weekends, holidays, and on-call/night shifts. This position is NOT a good fit for those with limited availability.
Employee availability is very important to us as our scheduled changes very frequently. Applicants are required to be available to work Sunday-Saturday. You WILL need to work frequent Saturdays.
We require the following qualifications;
- familiar with general vehicle maintenance and minor repairs
- comfortable using simple mechanical tools
- over 24 years old with clean driving record
- minimum 3 year’s driving experience
- familiar with local road/freeway systems
- applicants MUST provide a copy of a current DMV Driver History Report/K4 driving record printout (available online)
- clean criminal record, we do perform background checks on all employees
- ability to pass a physical and drug screening (including marijuana)
- must be reliable and dependable
