What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lead Occupational Therapist position at Joya Child & Family Development?
The Department Lead role is an opportunity to take on a leadership role in addition to your primary role. Department Lead positions will be opened to qualified applicants every five years.
Department Leads are expected to meet or exceed all expectations of their primary role while serving as a team motivator, communicator, and uniter. The pay differential for Department Lead duties will be determined annually through the budget process and communicated before the beginning of Joya’s fiscal year, July 1st.
Primary Role:
Use a play-based approach to provide engaging, individualized, physical therapy for children, age’s birth to three in a variety of settings (e.g. home, daycare, clinic, community).
· Engage families and caregivers as full participants in the child’s therapy program.
· Use currently accepted, best practice treatment methods and clinical guidelines appropriate for infants and toddlers.
· Utilize standardized assessment tools to evaluate children with developmental concerns and make appropriate recommendations.
· Complete accurate electronic documentation.
· Communicate, collaborate, and consult with other medical professionals.
· Construct or adapt equipment as needed to facilitate independent play and self-help skills.
· Develop and run small group sensory and/or motor activities within a classroom setting.
· Provide in-home services, sessions, and consultations.
· Address child equipment needs; including assessment, ordering, fitting, and making modifications as needed.
· Maintain a clean and safe environment for children.
· Participate in integrative and collaborative practice to promote high quality outcomes.
· Perform other related duties as assigned.

Education, Certifications and Position Requirements:
· Degree from an accredited school of Occupational Therapy, or a Bachelor’s degree with a National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy.
· Current Washington State Occupational Therapy license and the ability to maintain the license.
· Five plus years of experience working with preschool children with developmental disabilities or delays desired.
· Valid driver's license and vehicle with proof of insurance.
· T.B. Test, proof of TDap Immunization, and Hepatitis B vaccinations.
Supervisory Responsibility:
- Participate in weekly Lead meeting to address expectations, program quality.
- Approve weekly timecards prior to payroll process; assist in tracking down any missing time or miscoded time.
- Authorize leave requests according to policy and ensure accurate coverage for the program.
- Approve mileage reimbursements via the timekeeping/payroll system. Periodically audit mileage to ensure accuracy of mileage tracking.
- Assign mentors to new staff and provide guidance, as needed, to facilitate effective mentor relationships.
- Monitor department schedules and caseloads for efficiency, resource allocation and contractual limits as needed and appropriate.
- Serve as a conduit for two-way communication between the department's team and Joya’s leadership.
- Establish expectations for program quality and provide staff support to meet those standards.
- Document team performance in your department.
- Complete employee semi-annual performance reviews for each team member in your department.
- Attend local and or state meetings when needed.
