Special Education Paraprofessional

 

Woburn Public Schools actively seeks candidates who will contribute and are committed to a diverse school community and inclusive educational practices. We currently have permanent, full-time openings for a Paraprofessional to support our Elementary Special Education programs within the district.

 

FULL-TIME SALARY & BENEFITS PACKAGE:

  • Starting salary for this position is $29,801.15.
  • PAID holidays and time off, in accordance with the Woburn Public School Calendar.
  • WPS pays 75% of Blue Cross/Blue Shield Medical Insurance

The Special Education Paraprofessional assists in the education of students with disabilities across settings, including General Education classrooms, and in separate, small group sessions. Work with children with moderate to  severe disabilities, follow programs related to ABA, mental health, therapeutic, academic, or discrete trial settings across programs, as indicated on IEP’s.

 

Role and Responsibilities: 

  • Supervise students across all environments.
  • Support students academically, emotionally, behaviorally, socially, and with ADLs in the school setting.
  • Work effectively as part of an interdisciplinary team of teachers, BCBA, and related service providers.
  • Collect data on student learning and behavior goals, as needed.
  • Facilitate inclusion in general education classrooms.
  • Knowledge of special education procedures, school classroom procedures, including preparation and maintenance of records as requested by the classroom teacher or SPEd Team.
  • Participate in consultation with special education teacher and related service providers.
  • Ongoing communication with the program, SPED team  and building staff on behalf of the students.
  • Assist special education teachers in all other duties as needed.

 

 Qualifications and Skill Set:

  • Minimum High School diploma; higher degree preferred, such as Associate's or Bachelor’s degree
  • Safety Care certified or ability to be certified in Safety Care
  • Experience working with students with disabilities, preferred (or willing to receive training)
  • Ability to take the initiative and work independently
  • Ability to de-escalate behaviors
  • Calm, neutral demeanor
  • Reliable and well organized with sound judgment 
  • Effective oral and written communication
  • Willingness to work on academics, social skills, and activities of daily living, if needed

The employee may be required to reach with hands and arms above their head or reach forward, sit, squat, stoop or kneel. The employee must be able to lift or move up to 50 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
