Job Summary:
The Staff Accountant will play a pivotal role in ensuring the integrity of Joyent's financial information by overseeing and managing accounting transactions and processes. This position requires a deep understanding of accounting principles and standards, particularly in Accounts Payable (AP) and General Ledger (GL) functions. The ideal candidate will possess robust analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively across departments to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.
Job Responsibilities:
- General Ledger Management:
- Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts, ensuring data integrity and proper classification of financial transactions.
- Prepare and post journal entries to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting in compliance with accounting standards.
- Perform month-end and year-end close processes, including account reconciliations and financial statement preparation.
Accounts Payable:
- Oversee accounts payable functions, ensuring accurate invoice processing, timely vendor payments, and compliance with company policies.
- Review and analyze AP aging reports to manage cash flow effectively.
- Collaborate with vendors and internal departments to resolve discrepancies and improve payment processes.
Financial Reporting and Compliance:
- Assist in the preparation of financial reports, supporting schedules, and documentation for internal and external audits.
- Ensure compliance with US GAAP or IFRS accounting standards, staying updated on any changes or new pronouncements.
- Participate in the development and implementation of accounting policies and procedures to enhance operational efficiency.
Bank Reconciliations:
- Perform bank reconciliations, investigating and resolving discrepancies to maintain financial accuracy.
- Monitor cash balances and report any unusual transactions or variances.
Fixed Asset Management:
- Manage fixed asset accounting, including capitalization, depreciation, and reconciliations.
- Maintain the fixed asset register and ensure proper documentation for asset additions, disposals, and transfers.
Process Improvement:
- Identify opportunities for process improvements within the accounting function and implement best practices.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to streamline workflows and enhance financial reporting accuracy.
Skills & Competencies
- Proficiency in US GAAP or IFRS accounting standards, with the ability to interpret and apply relevant principles.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (e.g., pivot tables, VLOOKUP, data analysis) to support financial reporting and reconciliation processes.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and process improvement skills, with a keen attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.

Education & Experience
- BA/BS in Finance or Accounting preferred
- 3-4 years of progressive experience in accounting or finance, with a strong focus on general ledger and financial reporting.
- Prior experience managing accounts payable functions and overseeing AP processes.
- Experience working with ERP systems for accounts payable and general ledger functions.

Compensation and Benefits
Compensation for this position will vary among specific regions due to geographical differentials in the labor market, and actual pay will be determined considering factors such as relevant skills, experience, and comparison to other employees in the role. Therefore, the annual base compensation range for this role (depending on the geographical location) is expected to be between $105000 and $ 125000. As Joyent G&A team is under Samsung Research America, the candidate will receive Samsung Research America employee benefits.
