What are the responsibilities and job description for the Make Ready (Pole Transfer) position at JPA Construction Group?
Job Summary:
The Experienced Cable Pole Transfer Technician is responsible for safely transferring telecommunication cables and associated equipment from one utility pole to another. This includes working with aerial infrastructure, adhering to industry safety standards, and ensuring minimal disruption to existing services during the transfer.
Key Responsibilities:
- Transfer fiber optic, coaxial, and copper cables from old to new utility poles.
- Disconnect and reconnect aerial cables and related hardware.
- Ensure proper tension and sag of all transferred cables.
- Read and interpret work orders, construction prints, and maps.
- Operate bucket trucks, climbing gear, and other equipment safely and efficiently.
- Coordinate with other utilities and departments when performing joint-use transfers.
- Conduct safety inspections of pole hardware and report any hazards or damages.
- Maintain accurate records of work completed.
- Ensure all work is compliant with OSHA, NESC, and local/state regulations.
Qualifications:
- 1 year of experience in cable installation, utility pole work, or telecommunications (preferred).
- Must be comfortable working at heights and outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Ability to operate a bucket truck and pole climbing gear.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety practices.
- Good communication and problem-solving skills.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs regularly.
- Comfortable working at heights over 20 feet.
