Working under general supervision, you will provide comprehensive accounting services, support the financial operations of various affiliated entities, and play a pivotal role in month-end closings and financial statement preparation. In addition, you will mentor junior team members and ensure all accounting practices align with established guidelines.
Key Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (required)
- CPA designation preferred
- In-depth knowledge of accounting principles including data classification, recording, summarizing, and financial computations
- Strong grasp of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) with proven proficiency
- Exceptional client service skills paired with a professional demeanor and strict confidentiality
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to interact effectively with colleagues and management at all levels
- Outstanding organizational and time management capabilities with meticulous attention to detail
- Capacity to work efficiently under pressure with minimal supervision
- Proficiency in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- 4-5 years of progressive accounting experience
- Familiarity with accounting software systems
- Experience in Real Estate and Property Management is an asset
- Exposure to non-profit accounting is advantageous
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the Controller in managing daily, monthly, and year-end accounting operations, including budget analysis
- Supervise and review the work of junior accounting staff to ensure accuracy and compliance
- Evaluate ledger entries and supporting documentation (including bank reconciliations) and address discrepancies with team members and leadership
- Oversee the processing and recording of accounts payable transactions, ensuring timely and accurate payments
- Monitor payroll entries and reconciliations; coordinate payroll cash transfers
- Review cash receipts, revenue, and receivables processes while liaising with operational teams to maintain real-time reconciliations
- Audit and verify credit card expense reports and receipts on a monthly basis
- Manage functional expense allocations, monthly accruals, prepayments, fixed asset depreciation, and necessary journal adjustments
- Maintain the fixed assets subledger, ensuring accurate recording of impairments, disposals, additions, and sales
- Prepare and update audit schedules year-round for external auditors
- Assemble and review final financial statement packages along with monthly management reports
- Investigate budget variances by consulting with department heads to ensure financial reports accurately reflect business operations
- Ensure seamless integration between sub-ledger systems (accounts payable, payroll, accounts receivable) and the general ledger to guarantee balanced financial reporting in accordance with GAAP
- Conduct comprehensive account analyses and reconciliations (bank statements, fixed assets, accruals, prepayments, intercompany accounts)
- Independently review preliminary financial statements, verify account balances, identify discrepancies, and correct them per GAAP guidelines
- Liaise with Property Managers regarding variance reports, receivables, and lease activity
- Assist in tax audits and the preparation of tax returns
- Lead the annual budgeting process
- Prepare periodic investor statements as needed
- Champion improvements in systems and processes, training colleagues on new enhancements
- Contribute to the implementation and maintenance of robust internal financial controls and policies
- Identify opportunities to streamline operations to boost efficiency, timeliness, and reporting accuracy
- Undertake special projects as directed by senior leadership
- Maintain professional correspondence with internal and external stakeholders
