Critical Systems Technician III (Power Distribution)
The Critical Systems Technician III (Power Distribution) plays a key role in overseeing, maintaining, and ensuring the reliable operation of mission-critical electrical services in data center environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with sales and project teams to interpret project specifications and define field operations scope.
- Evaluate all project activities to ensure alignment with specifications and provide job-specific technical support as needed.
- Interface with manufacturers to resolve on-site technical challenges related to power distribution equipment.
Scope & Compliance
- Perform QA/QC inspections on all critical power distribution equipment to ensure compliance with contractual commitments.
- Develop and implement MOPs, SOPs, and EOPs for power systems, ensuring adherence to industry standards.
Equipment & QA/QC
- Conduct preventive maintenance on contracted electrical components to prevent downtime and ensure system reliability.
- Perform functional tests on low, medium, and high-voltage switchgear, relay panels, transformers, ATS, and circuit breakers to verify their correct operation.
Installation & Troubleshooting
- Install and service power distribution equipment, including testing and troubleshooting of transmission and distribution controls.
- Verify relay settings and logic equations to ensure proper system operation and troubleshoot any issues that may arise.
Reporting & Problem-Solving
- Provide regular project status updates to stakeholders, including progress reports and technical information.
- Troubleshoot technical issues in the field, utilizing problem-solving skills to identify and resolve problems efficiently.
Travel & Field Work
- Support regional projects and travel nationally, approximately 30% of the time, to assist with out-of-state work, with flights covered by the company.
Schedule & On-Call
- Predominantly work standard business hours, 8-10 hour days, with minimal on-call requirements, although this may change based on operational needs.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent is required; an Associate's or Bachelor's degree in electronics, electrical theory, or a related field is strongly preferred.
- At least 2-5 years of experience with mission-critical electrical systems, including installation, maintenance, and repair.
- 3-5 years of field repair or customer service experience involving UPS, switchgear, batteries, monitoring equipment, generators, or similar mission-critical systems.
Technical Knowledge
- Familiarity with NETA standards, IEEE, and NEMA specifications for low/medium voltage switchgear.
- A solid understanding of switchgear operation, maintenance, and testing, including hands-on experience inspecting, repairing, and reassembling low/medium voltage switchgear.
- Proficiency in reading one-line diagrams, blueprints, schematics, and construction drawings.
Computer Skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Project software.
- Experience with specialized testing equipment and related reporting software.
Certifications & Licenses
- NETA/NICET Level II or above (Electrical Power Testing) certification is required.
- NFPA 70E Low & High Voltage certification is also required.
