Job Description:
Description: The Certified Surgical Technician PRN is a member of the surgical team working with physicians, nurses, and other surgical personnel in delivering quality patient care and assuming appropriate responsibilities before, during, and after surgery.
Typical Duties
- Performs basic patient care with consideration for age and developmental stage.
- Assists with patient care in a way that minimizes the risk of transfer of infection, accidental contamination, and protects the patient from harm.
- Assists staff surgeons, residents, medical students, nursing students and surgical technology students with all surgical procedures and instructs on maintaining a sterile field.
- Assists in monitoring adequate availability and stocking of supplies and equipment according to the established PAR level.
- Participates in the quality improvement process.
- Handles instruments, supplies and equipment during surgical procedures.
- Maintains all AORN and JCAHO standards at all times.
- Picks and assembles all cases for same day and next day. Ensures that all cases have necessary equipment, implants, and special orders.
- Communicates to Team Leader regarding delays and add-on cases completed.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience:
- Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) or Technologist in Surgery – Certified ( TS-C), or LVN with specialized training.
- National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) certification or the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) certification.
- Current JPS recognized CPR certification and must be maintained throughout employment.
