Job Description
Description: The Dental Assistant is responsible for the clinic and patient readiness including scheduling and organizing clinic maintenance. Responsible for chair-side assisting and performs variety of patient care, office, and laboratory duties.
Typical Duties
- Obtains and records patients’ vital signs, weight and Collects specific observational data to the assigned Dentist, and prepares patients for dental/denture treatment. If working in the Oral Surgery Clinic, provides patients with post-procedure discharge instructions and schedules follow-up appointments as needed.
- Prepares operatories according to OSHA and TJC regulations.
- Performs and develops dental x-rays and performs routine QA on the x-ray processor. If working in the Oral Surgery Clinic, performs ordered images as indicated by Oral Surgeon and performs routine QA on the i-CAT processor.
- Maintains operatory inventory levels and maintains cleanliness; performs mandatory assigned opening and closing specified clinic daily duties.
- Monitors and evaluates programs and services in adherence to the CHC standards, OSHA standards, TJC, local ordinances, and state and federal laws applicable to assigned clinic.
- Interacts with internal and external customers with courtesy and respect expressing compassion and concern and projects a desire to be of service.
- Utilizes proper body mechanics when assisting transfer/transport of patients to and from dental chairs.
- If working for CH Dental services, assists with coverage at other Dental Centers as needed.
- Answers telephone, receives and relays messages, and schedules patient referrals as appropriate.
- If working for CH dental services, confirms next day patient appointments by telephone and notes responses on the daily schedule printout.
- May assist with non-Dental Assistant activities such as filing and other clerical tasks to assure a smooth flow of clinic activities.
- Maintains and continues professional growth and skill development by attending and participating in workshops, seminars, and/or other continuing education programs; provides a copy of certificate of attendance for verification.
- Performs other related job duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma, GED or equivalent.
- Completion of a Dental Assistant course from an accredited vocational school.
- Post-secondary Dental Assistant education/training or equivalent experience
- Texas State board license must be maintained throughout employment.
- Current JPS recognized BLS certification. May be obtained subsequent to hire and must be maintained throughout employment.
