Job Description:

Job Summary: The Nuclear Medicine Technologist PRN provides technical expertise and assistance to support ancillary personnel. This position performs a variety of specialized technical nuclear medicine procedures for appropriate diagnosis and also assumes responsibility for designated areas and may be required to perform administrative tasks.

Essential Job Functions & Accountabilities:

Performs procedure as ordered and obtains images according to written protocols. Ensures patient procedure and supply charges are correct.

Assists patient on and off exam table and from wheel chair or stretcher if needed. Obtains and records accurate patient history.

Cleans and monitors equipment and reports equipment problem or failure to Bio-Med or Manager.

Performs and documents quality control on equipment according to manufacture guidelines or department protocols; recognizes and take appropriate action for abnormal results (daily, weekly, or monthly). Performs daily crash cart quality analysis.

Maintains yearly competency, mandatory District education, professional certification, state licensure, and education requirements.

Ensures a safe and clean environment with all the necessary supplies needed to perform studies and procedures in exam room.

Receives, handles, stores, prepares and administers radiopharmaceuticals to patients according to prescribe dose or protocol and in compliance with QMP.

Provides “on call” emergency coverage on a rotational basis. Responds to hospital within 30 minutes or prior to time of isotope delivery if dose not on site.

Applies knowledge of department QMP, Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and State rules and radiation safety principles to ensure patient and staff safety for radiation protection to achieve radiation exposure ALARA (as low as reasonably achievable), for patients, self and others.

Qualifications:


Required Qualifications:

  • Graduate from JCERT approved school with certificate of completion or Associates degree.
  • Must be American Registry Radiology Technology (ARRT) in Nuclear Medicine or Certified as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist (CNMT) registered with the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) or eligible to take the boards (certified in 12 months upon hire).
  • Certified by the State of Texas as a Medical Radiologic Technologist (MRT).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, course accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) by first day of employment is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nuclear Medicine or related Radiologic Sciences Field.
