Description
The residency/fellowship assistant/associate program director assists the program director in planning, organizing, implementing, and coordinating residency/fellowship program activities and performs related physician duties as required. The assistant/associate program director position is overseen and monitored by the program director in collaboration with the department chair and the SVP, Academic & Research Affairs and supports the GME mission of JPS Health Network.
Distinguishing Characteristics And Qualifications
The assistant/associate program director must have specialty expertise documented educational and/or administrative experience in an accredited residency or residency/fellowship in alignment with regulatory requirements. The assistant/associate program director must have and maintain current board certification in the designated specialty by the appropriate and accreditation-approved board certifying body. The assistant/associate program director must have and maintain current Texas medical licensure, DEA certificate, and JPS medical staff appointment. The assistant/associate program director must meet any and all additional requirements as outlined by the program’s accrediting body.

- Administer and maintain an educational environment conducive to educating the residents/fellows in each of the ACGME competency areas.
- Assist with preparing information required and requested by the ACGME, CPME, CODA, or other accrediting body.
- Dedicate time per week to the residency/fellowship as defined by the ACGME, CPME, CODA, or other accrediting body and in support with the associated physician group, with sufficient time for administration of the program. This must be documented in accordance with all JPS policies and procedures.
- Demonstrate experience in clinical practice, education, scholarly activity, and a career commitment to academic medicine.
- Responsible for an effective curriculum and evaluation process to ensure that trainees receive appropriate teaching, clinic and rotation experiences, and evaluation.
- Responsible for assisting with resident/fellow recruitment, retention, and development and ensuring compliance with AAMC ERAS and National Residency Match Program (NRMP), or related specialty-specific organizations.
- Assists in the development and execution of quality assurance programs, reviews clinical records and determines if appropriate treatment is being given.
- Assists with selection, training, and evaluation of the performance of resident physicians.
- Assist with preparation and maintenance of appropriate records and reports related to the residency/fellowship program, and those patients under the care of residents/fellows and faculty.
- Attends meetings and represents the residency/fellowship program as requested by the program director.
- Leads and serves on assigned committees.
- Responsible for resident/fellow physicians obtaining and recording medical histories, performing physical examinations, and placing progress notes in records on all patients in their care.
- Provides a role model for patient-centered care in the office, hospital, and other community settings. This includes the performance of skillful history and physical examinations, effective diagnosis of diseases, ordering and interpretation of laboratory tests, and prescription and administration of effective treatments.
- Collaborates with operations/clinic directors regarding clinic resources and supervision.
- Adhere to all the duties as stated in the TCHD Medical Education Affiliation Agreements and accreditation requirements (ACGME, CPME, CODA, etc.)
- Methods and principles of medicine/surgery and demonstrated skill in their application.
- Thorough knowledge of the methods of diagnosing and treating diseases and deficiencies.
- General principles and techniques of hospital and clinic administration.
- General principles, techniques, and their effective application in regards to personnel administration.
- Basic knowledge of principles of finance, budgeting, planning and programming in a medical setting.
- Educational methods, including teaching methods and curriculum development.
- Applicable laws, rules and regulations, accreditation standards.
- Develop and communicate the vision and mission of the residency/fellowship to faculty, residents and staff as well as others outside the program who support or interact with the program.
- Plan, implement, manage, administer, and direct the work of the program.
- Effectively role model high quality, patient-centered health care.
- Provide effective leadership and work cooperatively with other staff members while assisting in supervision of residents/fellows and ancillary personnel.
- Prepare clear and comprehensive case histories, records, and reports.

Required Education and Experience:
- Current Medical Doctor (M.D) or Doctor of Osteopathy (D.O.) degree from an accredited school of medicine.
- Residency and/or Fellowship training within Psychiatry.
- Current, unrestricted medical license to practice in the State of Texas.
- Board Certification or Board Eligible.
