How You’ll Make An Impact
Applications Engineering, within the custom automation industry, consists of the development of competitive technical solutions to customer requirements for custom automated equipment. Requirements for an Applications Engineering Manager role typically include, but are not limited to:
- Hire, train, maintain, manage, and support Applications Engineers and the AE Team in the professional execution of their Departmental Functional Requirements and Career Development.
- Qualify Viability of Customer Opportunities introduced by the Sales Team Members.
- Manage the Development of Cost-Effective Technical Solutions to Customer Opportunities.
- Identify & Implement Continuous Improvement Initiatives related to AE Tools and Processes.
- Ensure proper Application Engineer Staffing and Competency Levels to meet the Sales & Business Objectives of the Business Unit or Division.
- Direct and Supervise all Applications Engineering Team
- Qualifying incoming opportunities to ensure alignment with forecast and financial metrics.
- Managing & Maintain related Business Unit specific, AE-related fields in Company CRM.
- Manage the Development of Win Strategies and Cost-Effective Technical Solutions to Customer Opportunities consistent & compliant with the Capabilities, Requirements, Standards and Objectives of the Business Unit or Business Division.
- Ensure AE Department is adhering to company best practices and procedures.
- Facilitate cross functional team support for Quote Opportunities that are assigned to the AE’s.
- Supporting Application Engineers and Functional Teams to solve problems with no previous or standard solution.
- Reviewing quote packages prior to submission to ensure Conformance to Specifications, proper Risk Mitigation and Accuracy and Quality of Information to promote a win.
- Generating and managing Business Unit strategy for achieving yearly financial metrics including necessary Periodic Reports for Management Review.
- Continuously improve company-wide processes and team member performance.
- Ensure that all AE Quote Activities are associated with appropriate Risk Mitigation Plans.
- Possess thorough knowledge of the Business’s Strengths & Weaknesses and leverage Cost-Effective Solutions in keeping with the Business Capabilities.
- Ensure conformance to “As Sold” scope of work within the early stages of each project.
- Supporting Account Managers by attending customer visits for key accounts.
- Interviewing, hiring, and employee development.
- Developing standards and learning paths for AE Career Development and potential Department Leadership.
- Annual performance reviews.
What You’ll Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in a related business or engineering field.
- 5 years of industry experience leading successful projects and highly motivated teams (10 years’ experience preferred).
- Proficient in all Applications Engineering processes and tools.
