What are the responsibilities and job description for the Temporary Athletic Trainer position at JSerra Catholic High School?
Description: The Athletic Trainer assumes the responsibility and obligation of maintaining an athletic training program in all high school sports programs to ensure the health and safety of all students, coaches and spectators. An athletic trainer is a certified and licensed health care professional who practices in the field of sports medicine and prevents injury or re-injury of student athletes by developing conditioning, flexibility, and rehabilitative programs. Daily duties include applying bracing or administering therapeutic treatments as well as providing emergency first aid to injured or ill student athletes or staff. Normal work hours are approximately noon to 8:30pm (with an unpaid 30-minute lunch).
Responsibilities
• Athletic Trainer provides medical coverage at required practices and games as assigned including travel for playoffs or field trips if deemed necessary
o Adhere to monthly calendar developed by Head Athletic Trainer
o Management and care for all injuries on JSerra’s athletic campus
o Documentation and follow-up for all injuries
• Maintains the athletic training clinic
o Adhere and enforce all posted athletic training rules
o Maintain accurate records of injuries/treatments/rehab
o Communicate with physicians and other medical specialists, athletes and their parents, coaches, and Athletic Director to provide the best possible injury outcomes.
• Assist Director Athletic Trainer at mass-events and daily duties of the athletic training department
o Assist all athletic eligibility packets and clearances. Ensuring no ineligible athletes participate
o Assist with baseline concussion testing
o Assist record keeping and filing systems
o Assist with oversight with an inventory of supplies JSerra Catholic High School provides students in grades 9 through 12 with an individualized education in a faith-based, character-building setting. • Requires bachelor’s degree in Sports Medicine, Physiology, or similar major. Master’s degree preferred.
• Requires Board of Certification (BOC) in Athletic Training
• Professional Rescuer Certified or equivalent
• Extensive knowledge of high school athletics essential
• Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
• Ability to work well with others
• Current in certifications as required by JSerra, CIF, and NFHS
• Follow professional guidelines set forth in JSerra Handbook
• Some overnight travel (Southern California and regional US) to accompany sports teams when competing in remote athletic competitions is required (estimated at 10% travel).
