Duties
The Engineering and Architecture Student Trainee is responsible for assisting in architecture and engineering occupations and providing support work as it relates to management, program and administrative analysis, and process evaluation.
The student trainee performs a mixture of routine and somewhat complex tasks under the general direction of a manager, project / program manager, team leader, or other more experienced employee. The work activities typically support the work of other employees and contribute to the activities of the organizational unit.
The student works with teams on mission-related projects, engaging in meaningful learning and development activities while applying basic knowledge and limited experience in performing tasks. Assists manager and other employees in day-to-day operations.
Works with more experienced team members in compiling and consolidating data, computing or verifying the accuracy of human resource management occupations, and supporting more experienced team members, team leads, project / program managers, or managers of discrepancies. Identifies discrepancies and data omissions and regularly refers these problems and work issues to a manager, project / program manager, team leader, or more experienced employee for guidance.
Receives detailed instructions from a manager, project / program manager, team leader, or more experienced employee on performing specific tasks such as searching historical files for readily available background information such as recent staff or function changes, organizational charts, mission and function statements, and position descriptions. Supports higher-level employees in the design of organization and workflow charts, using graphic design software.
Assists and supports the day-to-day tasks associated with a variety of the Engineering and Architecture Group positions, which may include work assignments that concentrate in one or more of the following areas : Various engineering disciplines - General, Safety, Fire Protection, Materials, Civil, Environmental, Mechanical, Electrical, Computer, Electronics, Bioengineering and Biomedical, Aerospace, Chemical, Industrial. Additionally, concentration areas may include the Architecture Series. This group also includes Technician duties and responsibilities in Engineering Technician, Construction Control, and Electronics.
Contacts are primarily internal to one organizational unit to share basic information and to receive guidance. In some areas, there may be limited contacts with external customers. Work is reviewed regularly during assignments and at completion to ensure timeliness and quality.
Features of the Gateways Internship Program
Appointment : If selected, your appointment may not exceed a total of 120 days after graduation.
Agreement : All participants must sign a written Gateways Internship Agreement with the FAA that clearly identifies expectations of the appointment such as duties, length of appointment, work schedule, training, mentorship, etc.
Conversion : Although it is not guaranteed, an intern may be converted from the Internship program to a permanent excepted service position without further competition after successful completion of the educational program (awarding of degree), completion of a minimum of 640 hours of career-related work, required training, mentorship, and other requirements in accordance with the intern's participant agreement.
Termination : Participation in this program may be terminated at any time.
Transcripts : Must be submitted. If you do not submit your transcripts, your application will be considered incomplete and will not be given further consideration.
